nice looking motor.
One thing to look out for is rust around the fuel filler. This can get into the tank and lines and cause injector pump issues(just ask terranosaurasdoug) Other than that i don't really know too much about them either. |

Thanks Elty! I did read about that online. Hopefully it being a 2015 model I am ahead of the rust monster.
It has similar wheel arches as the Patrol. Just inside the wheel arch is a horizontal strip that the wheel arch extenders screw into. This forms a perfect ledge for mud to collect on and is very prone to rust. Once my garage is rebuild (hopefully before next summer) I am hoping to give it a good dose of underbody sealer. As it is a Japanese product, Amayama sell OEM parts at reasonable prices. Takes a bit longer on the delivery but a lot cheaper than getting it in the UK. One of the first things to do is changing the top timing chain guide. They are known to fail at around 85k miles and an upgraded version is available. The guide is only around £15, including a new rocker cover gasket it can be done for £30. The garage where I bought it is giving it a service as we speak but once I have time i would like to change all the filters and fluids. At least I have a known starting point for future maintenance. Should be picking her up on Friday and will post a few photos when she is home. |

You wouldn’t say that she is only 6cm/2.25” shorter than the Patrol. Same height but also a 5cm/2” narrower.

my younger brother had a pajero for many years.good job he was a good mechanic as we were always working on it,mainly over heating problems.even put a larger rad in new fan but it still kept getting warm and pushing water out from overflow bottle.we put 2 heads on it over the time he had it.will say it only broke down 1 time and had to be relaid home till we fixed it.we did end up putting a pair of twin speed kenlow fans on it and that finally solved heating problem.was running good for a couple of years with no trouble then he decided to sell it,went to slovikia and never herd any more.he spent thousands on it during the 10 years he had it.his was an import.
hope you have better reliability. |

Cheers PB. Thank for the photo’s, it doesn’t look too bad on your truck. As long as the underlying structure is not damaged.
I did some research before buying the Shogun and in general the reviews were that they are very reliable. Not sure if your brother had a Monday morning model but so far so good. It certainly has more power than the Patrol. Very noticeable coming up the hill into the village. Haven’t had the trailer behind it yet but hopefully next week. |
