Spring assisters

As we do a lot of caravan towing with either of our two LWB Terrano's one thing we have noticed is a tendancy with the loadout we have (Awning and Poles along with anexe and it's poles behind the front seats along with ground sheets for both, two folding bikes behind the back seat and the noseweight of the van), to squat a bit at the rear, which is more noticeable at night with the headlight setting. We are thinking of perhaps fitting a set of the wedge type of spring assisters. our last two Granadas had these and they made quite a difference.
Anyone any thoughts or have actualy done this?

Might be better getting a pair of HD rear springs with a higher compression rate

I've used the round rubber ones that fit in the coils in past which worked ok.

I would go for higher rated springs... They are actually pretty easy to swap out.

I fitted them to mine, and never looked back, although I did go for a 2" lift, so fitted longer shocks as well.

When towing, we usually fold the rear seats down, then load it up with 12 ferrets, in 2 cages on a custom made shelf, a 3Kw Genny, 40Kgs of Ferret litter, 40l of Petrol, a Mobicool Freezer full of the Ferrets frozen food, a portable Aircon unit, and other bits that fit in... We then have the 8foot long roof box, which we put lighter things in, like spare fleece ferret bedding, and clothes for us. I just drop the head lights down with the switch, and never had a problem with them dazzling.

I know Paul has added this spring assists to his rear springs with good effect.

I upgraded my factory springs to get a 2" lift and as a consequence, it has worked well for supporting the caravans weight.

Another option is to go full hog, get some airbag assist on there!

Looks like they stock 20% stronger springs and a better brand too, but for that you do have to pay a bit extra but I'd rather the OBK ones

Dare I say it but Milners also sell the OBK springs.
That's what make my +3" rear coils are.
Not sure if the standard length are OBK though.

I doubt they are OBK, OBK ones have a stamp on the last coil on each end of the spring on opposing sides I think from memory.

Unless their product picture is just for "illustration only"

Just had a look and the standard springs are a Milner product,only the longer coils are OBK and yes mine have it stamped on the spring and also had a sticker on them until i stripped them and powdercoated them.

The first set of 20% coils for the rear of the Patrol were supposedly OBK certainly had a sticker but do not recall being stamped, anyway they failed so got a refund, Rick

Had mine on for about 4 years now and still going strong.
Granted I don't do much heavy towing or carry a lot of weight all the time.

There are airbag kits that fit inside the spring, pump them up when towing, let them down when not, that way you still get a normal drive when not towing

I've seen a kit for £100 somewhere.

Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.
