What a great mixture of cars...

For my history, I started driving 4x4 tractors and fork trucks on the farm, but my first 4x4 car was the 1.6 LWB Suzuki Vitara, it was a company car, and I did 250K miles in 4 years in her, including towing and off roading. Great car.

At the same time as the above, we got this little SJ for fun...

The Vitara was then sent on it's way, and the second Company car was the 2.0l Diesel Grand Vitara... not a patch on the first one..

At the same time, we decided the little SJ above was too good to get carried away off roading, so we decided to get an "Off Road" only SJ with a trailer, so we had the Grand, the little SJ, and this off road one.

Next company car was the Scooby Sport..

We then went through a time of non 4x4's until I got my first T2

followed by Suz's first 4x4...

Then her second 4x4

and finally my latest one...

Sit back and get the popcorn
Very first 4x4 was a Suzuki SJ410 Santana.

Next came another SJ but this was the 413 with a full calmini suspension lift kit and under slung axles running on 31" tyres.

an ever growing family meant the 4 seater SJ wasn't going to be big enough so i traded that in for a MK 1 SWB Shogun.

Ran this for about 10 months but it was a lemon.
Looked lovely when i bought it as it had recently had a full respray and undersealed.
Found out that was just to hide how sh** it really was.
Spent many a weekend putting right some serious bodging.Rear of chassis was replaced and new bodymounts fabricated to keep it going.
Lost all faith in it and ran the company Diahatsu Four track independent until i changed jobs.

Had to buy a normal car for a while with baby number 4 on the way and a 50 mile daily commute so i left the 4x4 scene for a while and ran a MK 2 Renault Espace
Missed my 4x4 too much so Traded the Renault for my very first Terrano.

Ran this one for a couple of years but a combination of injector pump failure and the on set of rot meant this one was retired to corner of the garden and a MK 1 terrano II petrol was bought.

Ran this one for 3 years but i picked up another TDI locally for the sum of £300.
Was an mot failure but nothing serious and a bit of my time and a few quid saw it back on the road in no time.

Ran this one for a while but fancied something a bit newer so left nissan for a while and bought a Frontera
Drove lovely when it was working and could hold its own in the rough but just wasn't for me.

Ended up swapping the Frontera for a Toyota Estima 4wd.

Never took it in the rough but was a good versatile bus until the cylinder head went.
Fitted a new head and sold it on and bought myself another Terrano.
This time i went for an auto as the mrs finds driving them so much easier and less painfull because of her illness.

Bought the mrs a little Diahatsu terios auto to run about in while i set about repairing the rotted out rear floor in the terrano and i had my little quad for work and laning. Both have now gone and the mrs has a ford B max auto as a run about now.

Also recently bought the petrol Maverick from Banshee as another little project.

Had a few brown trouser moments fording rivers in my SJ
With them being so light you could really feel the current pushing you around.

If one came up, right condition and money, I would have one.
Perfect for just getting about in Devon!
Back to thread.....
I've only owned two 4x4s.
The Patrol I have now and my brilliant Pajero.
It took us all the way to Italy over the Alps twice.
Brilliant in the snow with its Auto-Select centre diff.
I added a rear locker from a shogun. This turned her into a go-anywhere bomb-proof super-babe!
She even climbed the Pheasant Steps and Bastard Lane with a roof-tent on.
I sold her to a complete tosser who crashed her two days after the sale!
