They are terrible things. Half the time you are flashing them thinking they have left their high beam on. I have been left with squinty eyes for a few seconds after, so it surely can't be safe.

Part of the problem is the HID and LED upgrade kits, fitted to headlights that are not designed to be used. New MOR regs will sort some out but you’ll get people removing kits and then refitting after MOT.
I have a neighbour who lives opposite with a fancy new Audi with LED headlights. Because their drive slopes down their headlights go straight into our windows and our eyes when in the car. Wouldn’t be so bad if they turned their lights off straight away but they don’t not even sure if the alarm remote turns the lights off.

That must be a nightmare. Would a carefully aimed air rifle help. Am i right in thinking the new MOT regs are clamping down on the retro fitted ones now.?

Yeah new MOT regs are clamping down on loads of things, I think there may be a few problems coming all our ways but only time will tell.
Apparently the upgrade kits fitted to standard headlamps are currently illegal but will pass an MOT or so I’ve seen on the Internet but after 19th May they’ll actually fail.
Classification of fails and advisories look as though they are changing too. Vehicles won’t need an MOT so I think we may all be going out and buying series 1 and 2s instead of Terranos

Exclamation Bright Headlights

As others have said there are some very bright headlamps even in dip beam.

My old Chrysler 300 CRD Estate had the Mercedes sourced Bi-Zenons, I found them very good with a superb main beam.
The dip beam cut off must have been fairly good as I never got flashed.

Now I have retired I do very little night driving so my old fashioned headlamps with Quartz bulbs are quite adequate only thing I did with the Jeep was upgrade the bulbs from 55/100W to 80/100 W. Not road legal but as the reflectors and polycarbonate lenses have aged they are probably about the same as brand new units.

My sentiments exactly, seems people are far too self centred today to think about what they do and who they may inconvenience, Rick
