VED Reminder

How much was the VED before the budget? I can't recall what I paid last year for 12 months

As we don't have discs anymore to check. Mines a 2003 2.7.

Just had reminder today for end of this month=£305.00

I don't mind paying any amount as long as I feel I'm getting value for money.
I don't feel that.
I know it doesn't go towards the up keep of the roads & only a percentage does.
Just another tax we have to pay....................... On the plus side, I'll be running 75% veg soon

What gets to me about taxes in general is successive governments of all parties keep increasing taxes in little nibbles or new taxes amongst other methods of increase. How long can they carry on increasing taxes before you get to a point that your whole income is tax?

new monthly payment is 26.68 now it was 20.56.i pay both monthly its 5% charge.

Just done my BMW 325i £305 up £10 from last year when it was £295 that's a 3.39% rise in a year.
Ironically the SL 500 is only £245 this year for 12 months!
The Jeep was £295 in January just gone up by £10.

On the subject of comparison of different vehicles.

The Skoda that I own is £130 a year but a Fabia is £20 a year with the same engine. The Roomster is a Fabia front end

I had a Scenic 1.5dci with a similar tax band to the Roomster but a Clio even the estate version was £20 a year

This does prove the whole road tax bands are incorrect.

The scrapage schemes for diesels was in the headlines yesterday. So you'll possibly get a few hundred or even a thousand pounds off the price of a brand new car. Obviously a car is a personal choice but surely for a lot of people if they could afford to buy a brand new car they'd already be in one

Best hurry up and get the mg fixed up for the free tax

I used to work with a chap who had the idea that you scrap VED, and instead you put an amount of "VED" on the price of fuel. The thinking being that the more miles you drive, the more you pay, the "thirstier" your vehicle, the more you pay. This way the "part time" drivers don't subsidise anyone else, etc.

He also suggested that the price of fuel included an amount to give everyone basic third party insurance, that way no-one every gets hit by an uninsured driver. Then you pay an insurance company to boost your insurance to fully comp, protected, legal etc.

That sounds a sensible idea but a lot of people me included would winse at the price of fuel.

There would be winners and losers, but it would be more fair. Those that do 5k a year pay much less than those that drive 30k a year. My wife would pay more (25k/yr), whereas I would pay less (7k/yr).

i believe it should be on fuel,doubt the ins part could be worked though.
anyway for new owners the new tax bands means everyone pays except for leccy cars.
