Banshee mate, you can see the spines bit coming off the steering box, see the groove dug out in the splined arm, the knuckle/joint must do up over this, that way it is impossible for it to slip or come off

We didn't realise at the time but mine was sitting past this

Depends on how tall you are but I found having it a bit lower was better for me. 6ft3"

Alex looking at your fix, that doughnut is surely a massive weakspot??

Can this not be strengthened somehow? Surely adding another 2 will make the steering really unresponsive as the doughnuts are flexing before turning the metal? Does that make sense?

Actualy it does look a weak spot, surely there must be something available.

The plans of the techs at work was for me to source three doughnuts, at which point long secure bolts would go through all 3 thus no bending of bolts ect.

Saying that though this steering had stood up to all the abuse I've thrown at it, nothing looks out of place.

The techs told me back when this thread was made it was a "temp fix"

In reality it's highly unlikely to give issues.

But yes 3 donuts will do the job nicely

Bringing this back to life and sticking it as myself and Alex have both had issues after doing a 2" body lift, Alex's incident seems to have been a lot more serious than mine however mine seems to have the potential to have grown a lot more serious had I left it and possibly the destruction of my Power Steering pump.

So my steering box appears to leaking fluid from the input bearing rubber seal I think, Rustic the genius that he is sussed that it must have been my body lift that caused this as I didn't loose the pinch bolt which is exactly the opposite to what Alex did and now I too have problems, the upwards force being applied to the input bearing appears to be allowing fluid out and air in which is why I'm getting pink frothy fluid and the noise from the pump, which goes to show that if you have a 2" body lift, you HAVE to do something to deal with the new angles and lengths, SOMETHING THAT IS NOT MENTIONED IN THE XPAJUN KITS!!!!!!!

In the light of the clear safety issues here, I think I have a duty to gather my findings and pictures here with Alex's and make this a sticky and also pass the info to XPAJUN with my permission to ship with their kits.
I would hate another young enthusiastic newcomer to come along, buy the kit, fit it and then get seriously injured because of this.

I took a look at my "donut" earlier in the car park at work and it looks as if the lift has caused the donut to warp in shape as it's being pulled in all directions!!!



So ages ago reading this very thread knowing my body lift was imminent I actually prepared for this and forgot all about it, had a rummaged around in the toolbox and found the donuts that I ordered from James, popped out at lunch and measured up that I needed some M8 50mm Nuts bolts and washers and now I'm ready to go when I get home from work

Please all pray for me that this seals the air/fluid leak that I currently

BTW, Alex is right, there is no way with bolts through the 3 of these will allow any sort of flex

I wonder what has changed then, you may need to look into seeing if this relates to a manufacturing date...

On my 1999 T2, I followed the XPAJUN instructions, slackened the UJ pinch bolt located on the steering shaft, and allowed the UJ on to side about 2mm down the splines. I did not undo the bolt on the steering box side, as this one does not have any adjustment in it, but while there, I did check to make sure it was done up properly.

I had to give it a couple of taps to make sure it slid down enough to relax the donut, and because I had read the issues Alex had, I decided to check and make sure there was plenty of shaft still in the UJ. I poked a jewellers screwdriver into the slot in the side, and the shaft was still past that, so meaning there was at least 20mm still inside the UJ.

The techs keep telling me it's only a temp fix but it's still going strong touch wood!

I'm gonna look into taking the lower control rod out and cutting and welding a bit in as like banshees my steering box is leaking at same place and thinking its due to body lift that way everything is the same just with extended control rod

Mark I fixed it without having to weld anything, send me a PM with your address and I'll send youa spare donut I have, source yourself some M8 50mm Nuts, Bolts and Washers and then loosen the pinch bolt on the spline, fit the donuts, tighten up, then re-tighten the pinch bolt in it's new relaxed position, there was a noticeable difference as the rubber seal was back in its normal shape on the input shaft
