Default 100K Plus ?

My Terrano is coming up to 100,000 mile mark. This is somewhat of a psychological land mark as regards the age and reliability of a car
And this got me thinking as to what items are truly mileage related when it comes to wear.
I think most people think of the wear on the engine first, but we know the 2.7 is capable of Stella mileage if properly maintained
So next bodywork and chassis, this is more a maintenance related area, Wax oil, wash off the salt, clean and dry off regularly and it can stay
pristine for years, my 87swb was immaculate not a spot of rust any where.
Next what you could call semi consumables, starter motor, alternator, exhaust, water pump.
As most of these cars are now over ten years old ,it is commonsense that one or more of these things could pack in at any time
some could be on there second or third replacements. but they are relatively cheep to replace.
then there is the running gear bushes track rod ends etc, again relativity cheap to replace.
So that leaves the transmission, as far as i can see this is the only major mileage related area that can be costly to repair.

Bearing all this in mined how relative is the mileage to the prospective reliability of a car?

Is it just a generalized ,unreliable yard stick ?

And what sort of mileage do you need to do before you get truly mileage related problems with the transmission etc?

I spoke to a black cab owner with same lump, he reported 500k+ before box was needed. Still no engine leaks

Shoe on other foot, mine is on 111k and gearbox is ok but not so pretty.

No proper yard stick mate, when something wears out replace it, starter for instance can go at 50k or 250k no way of knowing, steering gear? depends on the terrain the motor runs on, but also on the possible damage to rubber boots, motor used off road but boots undamaged may last longer than motor used only on road but boot damaged by debris thrown up at high speed =water into joint, Rick

Options are.
Sell and get a newer car/truck.
5 k with anything about 50k milage.
And start preparing as/jobs come up.and they will.but when.
Or consider if it costs you 600 a year maybe for full service.all rubber bushes and maybe even clutch.
That's still only 3k for 5 more years motoring.
