Has anyone tried the £70 HD sat receiver in Aldi at the moment, I have a HD ready TV and a ageing sat box, was tempted to have a go but wondered if there are any others that have tried it/know about it, Rick

Is it free-sat or a sky rival? £70 seems a lot for a sat box, do you get all the coax cable and dish too?

yes it is free, no card needed, and all cables, dish, lnb, but no USB storage device, I guess this would enable recording of programs but not clear on the box, the box gives a webb address but it says it is still being constructed, so no joy there, Rick

I bought a Lab gear one from Screwfix, that has a USB port, a couple of years ago , complete with dish, bracket, cable etc I tried it with a memory stick for recording and that worked OK so I bought a SATA hard drive, in a case with USB and that works well.
The Aldi one is possibly similar.

The remote control has the usual record and play back buttons, does the ALDI one?

Sounds quite good then if everything is included, the box might have a onboard storage device, my sky+ he box has a pc drive inside for recording and playback

Could do with a freesat box for the car, when I go away camping

We got one for the boat, I made a tripod for it, but to be fair, it even works attached to the handrail, and still pocks up whilst you move around the boat.

Works off 12 volts, takes about an amp.

easy to set up:thumb2:thumb2

It was also from Aldi, about three years ago, portable with small dish and sucker for the roof, probably a Lab gear one too.

Came in a plastic case.
I have also seen similar in Maplins too.
Only buy it when on special offer though.:thumb2

All up and running, so much better than my old receiver, HD and loads of other channels, and although it says on the box sat finder and compass not included, they are in the box so absolutely everything you need, well made up, looking for an empty USB stick now to test the recording facility, Rick

Excellent, then buy a SATA hard drive in a case with USB, no software required, the sat will see it as a USB stick with giga or terra bites of storage, and many many hours of recording.

We use ours daily, you can also pause and continue, like if the phone rings, fast forward over the commercials...

Record and save programs for later, of keep them, rename them etc.

yep, looks like sata disc is the way to go, popped a 16 gig chip in and records easy and whats more plays back on my laptop, well impressed, I should be able to get out of having to watch Eastenders while having me dinner, I will record it and she can watch later while I am in the workshop, do you think I will get away with that? can but try, Rick

Oh and for those that need, it is very small and runs on 12v dc but if you could be charging while using it I would fit a voltage stabiliser, as it probably would not like 14 plus volts, Rick
