Well did my course today and i have to say realy enjoyed it
Had a laugh and learned quite abit
Was interesting to see the mix of people on the course
Lets hope it doesnt effect the insurance when it comee to renew it

I did the Course, it was run by a Woman! a Typical Women Driver!!!!
Every time anybody mention "Women Drivers" or "Immigrant Drivers with NO licences" they got threatened with expulsion and 3 points back on their licence! it was a joke!
Showed films of idiots doing 60 in 30 limits and another geezer doing 85 outside a School! (probably a Set-Up).
Best thing to do the course and keep your gob shut!
Save the 3 points for another day.
By the way, I saw the van that did me, I was doing 33 in a 30 zone, and I saw it again on the way back again.

Did you know........

That it is an offence for the council to put repeated sings up sayin 30MPH.

SO if you in a 30 limit you will only see the sign as you enter it and no other sign till you exit it.

So If you dont see any more signs them your still in a 30MPH limit, if you go into any other limit then they have to put repeated signed up. Makes no sense to me but thats the LAW.

If the seed limit is change on ANY road then it should display the new limmit on BOTH sides of the road as you enter it, although if its gone from 40 to 30 no other signs will be displayed after entering. If its gone from 50MPH to 40MPH then you will see repeated signs as you drive.

The good thing is, to be prosecuted they have to comply with the law as well as you. If they get it wrong you get off.

Its all on the VOSA Gov website if you search for it, i have to cos i do this for work. And had to find it a few weeks ago.

Do not forget that if the street lights are less than 200 m apart then its automatically a 30 mph limit without any sign except where a repeater sign tells you its more than 30 !
Its a common mistake to think you need a 30 mph sign to advise you its a 30 mph limit.

My view of speeding changed many years ago when I had to tell relatives that their son or husband had died in a road traffic collision. I remember every occasion that it happened and every time it was a male who had died. Speeding is too easy to justify in this rush rush mad world. Ever wondered what you do with the few minutes you save when you hurry. My old man used to say the fastest man is always at the back of the queue - makes sense when you think about it !!

Another saying:

"Better to be late in this world, than early into the Next!"

I will admit, since I started towing a "Tin Tent" I have slowed down my speeds from how I used to drive. Then again, before I was 60, I'd never considered getting one, before I used to curse any Caravan puller on the road, now my Son calls me names, he'll get old one day!

Nowadays I think of myself as a cruiser, plus cos I drive a Mav so I can see lots more than other folks in cars (Like my son in his Volvo Estate), so I need to slow down to look at everything I couldn't see before!

I did the course quite a few years ago. never affected my insurance though. The course is ok i suppose, so long as you can take personal criticism?

On my course, we watched load of videos that, essentially, told you what an evil person you were for speading, and that you could have killed someones child and that person hates you even though you havent. Then we did sort of handouts, group discussions about why we were caught speeding etc.

we then had lunch, which was quite nice. got some pop, nice sandwich and biscuit.

after lunch, another video, then we went out with an instructer, 4 to a car, and did some driving skills tests. each person had to commetn on the drivers ability in turn. Of course, I got two old cocks who basically said i scared them and cant drive etc, but the funny part at this point was the insutructer stopped them both and said they were wrong, I drove well if a little fast but i showed better use of mirrors, better understanding of the area outside of the car, better observational skills and so on, so i was sure to be very critical of them both. For example, the older guy thought it was correct to sound his horn several times when descending a hill TOWARDS a bridge. dick, instructor told him off.

anyways, the insutructor then did an examination of all our driving skills and did a report, I got a good one but again, im a little fast, other than that good driver, and i have a from to prove it!

anyway, point is, you can actually get something out of the course if you are open minded. I figured it was way better than the points on my licence AND a fine. end of the day, the points last a lot longer, and if you get done again in a few weeks, things aint looking so good.

if you are offered the course, take it, enjoy it and have fun. no point being uptight about it like i found a lot of the people there. No point banging on abotu being caught out and "werent going that fast" or being picked on. Just get it over with and itll be a more positive experience.

probably.

Did the course last year & basically agree with above says it all really...but, unfortunately, mine wasn't as comprehensive. Didn't rate the people in charge much either: they couldn’t answer 2 of my questions regarding speed limits & gave me the impression that they'd learnt it all out of a book the day before.
Though I was amazed how high the proportion of woman was: about 70%, & their general attitude left a lot to be desired, the men all seemed to take it for what it was rather than see it as personnel insult!
Go with an open mind & try to gain something for your money rather than waste the time. It's the best option by far.
Definitely arrive early & do not get 'done' on the way there as one irate woman did: (we had a good snigger over that one: well the men did anyway) .

PS: My Daughter goes for hers next week.....should be interesting.

While I agre with your genuine sentiments I do not agree with the massive influx of speed restrictions round here
I live in the sticks and there are now loads of A roads slammed with 40mph zones for no obvious reason other than stealth tax collection.
We've got long 3/4 of a mile straights now with 40 on them and not a fookin' house in sight:( Yet plod will sit in the flippin hedge and nab people coming along there overtaking tin tenters as it's the only safe place for miles.:doh
Conversely not one of the schools has a speed restriction round here except the one actually in town  Go figure that one :nenau
Better off having 20 mph actually IN town and then 60 elsewhere then I might respect restrictions more than at presesnt. Same goes for the poxy speed tax cameras :banghead They're all set to collect cash and not put in accident black spots. It's a flippin con , I'm cross :surrender
