Default Testing of an EC approved Tow bar

I found this link from Witter that shows how they test their tow bars.
This is probably why only EC approved tow bars can be fitted to vehicles registered " S reg" and later.

It makes you wonder what about earlier tow bars, I just think they were over designed, never heard of problems with the earlier ones, some were even home made.

the video of the testing is impressive.

liked the x5 throwing the test trailer about,
near on 3 tonnes trying to slide on those
reverse bends - wonder it didnt take the car
with it.

previously thought most spectacular test was
suspending the vehicle by the tow ball with a
large crane.

consider these quick release balls are secured
by typically one fastener as well to the bracket.
