Yoo-Hoo From Silly Suffolk!
Howdy-doody, all! Newbie to the forum & now a new owner of a P-reg Ford Maverick SWB 2.7Tdi in need of a little cosmetic attention (the car, not me!), so I'll be picking brains for a while on here!
I acquired the Mav' this evening as a trade-in deal on a Toyota MR2 MK2, after totally-wrecking my old Daihatsu Sportrak just two weeks ago in a roll-over write-off RTA while towing the MR2 on a trailer. I was taking the MR2 for a trade-swap that time, too, but I got carved up by a prat in a Pug - goodbye Sporty! Only fitting, therefore, that the "possessed" MR2 should go for a 4X4 replacement, I think (bloody car was a liability from purchase last year - blew its big-ends within weeks!)... Anyway, I just thought I'd say Hi for now, then see how things progress... |

Cheers, Guys!
Hey, Clivvy - we've got a Mazda MX5 MK1 (another recent acquisition - what we were going to swap the MR2 for!). We've also got an early MK1 MR2 (2nd oldest registered survivor in this country), and just for REAL fun, a Pontiac Fiero SE 2.8 V6 (US equivalent of the MR2). Not being greedy, like, y'know - just adds to the zest of life (and depletion of wallet!)... I wonder if the Mazda 1.8V6 would go into the MX5...? Hmmmmmm...... |

Might seem a stupid question, but am I right in guessing that the 2.7TDi engines are push-rod, single-cam jobbies?
I ask, simply because I've got so used to seeing cam-belt casings in front of engines and lumpy great cambox/valve covers on top these days, that I was surprise to note the absence of said casings on my Maverick's lump! Seems to me that head-gasket replacement isn't so complicated on these (apart from all the flippin' pipes going everywhere!).... |

yes you are correct, head gasket is straight forward, but the heads do crack, Rick

These engines are also found in the older London Black Cabs, they do well over 300 k miles with no trouble, just keep changing the oil and filter. Like any other engine....they don't like breathing in water.. Best regards, Rustic
