Mav/Terrano feature
Just have a message from the editor of Practical Caravan magazine on their forum asking about my Maverick. Apparently they are doing a used car feature about Mavs and Terranos in the December issue.

I think that's great. I often buy caravan magazines then regret it because their full of towcar tests where they rate the best towcar as a 4.7 Land Rover Discovery weighing in at around £47k. In my opinion they forget about the humbleTerrano in their used car tests.
I always see at least two or three of them on every Caravan site I visit, just a week ago at Grin Low (Nr Buxton) there were 4 (if you include 2 Mavericks) ranging from P Reg to 52 plates. All of them doing an honest and capable job of pulling some big caravans. I feel quite emotional now Alan |

I think the Terrano 2 is a super motor for towing .The TD27ti engine pulls my twin wheeler 5 berth about like I am hooked up to a steam train.

Pete, check out the Oz and African off roaders with their off road caravans,
the tin tents are about 12-14 foot, sometimes low profile with pop up roof on same wheels tyres as the the tug. then in terms of big caravans, look for airstream caravan safaris, these guys back in 50S/60S were towing 20 -30 foot silver bullets round world, across africa all in name of fun and destructive testing of the iconic trailers. note the the yanks call caravans = trailers, and rallies = caravans. 2countries divided by a language etc. got a great book on airstream history shows some of thes year or more long trips, suspect there may be some utubes etc. finally think some banger racing take tin tents round for fun, and stunts have bee video'd taking a caravan round off road courses.

Diesel yes a good tow car, but unfortunately I would not call my old 2.4 a good tower, the ratios just didnt seem right for the torque range. Too much gear changing on hilly motorways when towing my caravan I felt. I like to be able to leave it in 5th and not worry like when i'm using my works Hi-Lux d-cab. Now that is an awesome tow truck!
I call it the turbo tug |
