thats spyware buddy, a virus. im surprised you cant get in via safe mode but theres still plenty of ways to fix it.

what happens when you try safe mode? does it just hang? or seem to hang?
there are lots of tools out there to get you out of that trap, may take a few minutes, may take a few hours depends on if you have important data and settings/passwords etc.

if you are really stuck, ill have a look at them for you but you'll have to drop them off at mine, if thats ok, and leave them with me? either that, or i can send you some usefull tools if you like to tinker?

if you can get the laptops into windows, then thats a start, i can try a few fixes remotely for you.

when you boot the laptop, do the F8 thing, but try "last known good configuration", sometimes that actually does work. failing that, try safe mode but leave it for ten minutes or so, see if it eventually goes in. if it does, you can either choose to restore the laptop, or run some AV tools to remove the crap or create a new profile...lots you can do.

if you have important stuff you need to back up you can run a program called knoppix, it is simple to use it runs from the cd and runs at bootup and you get a linux feel but what you can do is back all files onto a usb pen and then you can try and fix with the other links i gave you all run from cds if this fails reinstall windows.

knoppix

bootable antivirus

unbootble pc

another bootable cleaner

As I posted sometime ago, my desktop got a trojan, and wouldn't boot, I re-installed from the "start-up disk, it ran BUT came back with all the trash as before. Access to all sorts of unmentionable sites... eg Land Rover appreciation society.
I couldn't upload my virus protection from BT, I had no other computer to ask you guys, I then bought an Acer Notebook, took the Computer to PC World and they sorted it out with "Remove spyware etc " for £29.99 sorted in less than a week. Other Computer shops wanted £60 to format the disk.. I could have done that myself, but would have lost all the application software ( I back up the data anyhow).
Also it seems to run faster now.

So PC World (Stafford) get my vote in this instance.

Best regards,
Rustic

Default good anti virus software for FREE.....

I have been using www.avast.com for years now, they get updates through all the time. There was a warning 2 weeks ago about this virus that was mentioned.

The main thing about Avast if you are a home user it is free and all updates are automatic so very fool proof.
