Default Advice: Buying a Terrano/Maverick petrol or diesel etc

We're thinking about a SWB Terrano or Maverick. Have seen 2 for sale. One is a 1997 2.4 petrol with 60K on the clock, the other is a 1999 2.7Tdi with 120K on the clock. What should I be checking and what mpg can I expect from the petrol and the diesel? I know the diesel would probably be better but the petrol one in absolutely mint!

Cheers!

Never had a diesel but got a petrol...
I get about 40 miles to a tenners worth of fuel around town, bit more on a run.
When you look at the car, make sure you test drive it and dont be scared of giving it a bit of a go. Take it to a big hill and drive it hard up it, if it backs off the power at all I'd stay away... what I thought was an engine in need of a little service has now cost me a fortune in replaced parts trying to solve a fault where it backed off the power under load, and its still not 100%.

Gonna be cheeky now, If you dont buy the petrol will you tell me where it is?
I have a gas kit for mine but because I cant solve the fault im beginning to think about replacing it

I've had a petrol and got a diesel - they do about the same mpg, Nissans official figures actually had the petrol down as best.

If they are both about the same price go for the diesel 120k is nothing for these trucks and a 2 year newer one will be worth more in the long run. PS I really am not a fan of diesels but have come to like mine.
