New to this....
Hi everyone Im new to this and about to take delivery of a maverick 2.7td on wednesday 03/03/10. I have been told that tho structually sound and in good condition there are a couple of bits that need replacement...
1:- New head gasket 2:- new front diff Just looking for any pointers and tips when i start this work ... i.e. would you have to replace headbolts... and would you recommend skimming head as path of the course. RE 2 i have never replaced a diff before and although am told it has been removed im not 100% what this entails for replacement and any ancillary parts i should be ordering at the same time this really relates to both jobs too....im sure i will find some other faults/niggles along the way too!!! I would appreciate any help/pointers from anybody whom thinks they have any info that may/may not be of some help too me. Thanks and look forward to hearing from at least one member lol will post some pics when it arrives as only said to friend of friend i will have it for 100 pound project so have little info at mo im afraid Take care |

How do and welcome
I dont know about head problems but the diff is unusual to fail. Are you sure it's dead and not some sort of hub problem ie auto lockers? What year truck is it and model etc Worth sticking that detail on your sig. then others wont need to ask. |

Hi make it fit.....thanks for your promt reply.
I really dont know much at all at moment about the truck and i will add as soon as i know those details. My father in law took this car in his garage and looked it over and told me this is what it needs so am just putting that diagnoses in trust at the moment. He offered it to me as a £100 project as he doesn't have the time to do the work and does not think it would be cost/time effective for him to do the work. Knowing where i live and with the recent bad weather (we dont get gritters here-middle of nowhere) i thought i would give it a go. he has checked it over for mot purposes and has said that he thinks it would sail through. He did give me a vitara about 6 weeks ago and i changed timing belt and water pump on there and now works fine...problem is it is so thirsty and there is just no room in it for kids and luggage! |

re diff
Hello again mate....thanks for your messages they are really appreciated.
I would most defo be interested in the diff you have and would even be willing to come and collect at some point if that suits with you.....i would also be more than willing to pay you in advance for it if it would help. Obviously i dont even have the car yet but as soon as i do i will forward you some piccies and see if you think i have had a bargain or if you think i have a mountain to climb lol. I wouldnt mind exchanging phone numbers either and maybe having a natter and a grin if ok with you as im sure i can learn shed loads from you and hopefully save a bit of effortr along the way too. Cheers again Mark |
