Default MOT

hey guys!

MOT tomorrow (not due till 20th ) and hopefully get my Crankshaft Sensor problem fixed. I am not gonna kid myself, I fully expect a large bill, even though I am fairly confident there is nothing wrong with the car, I think its better to think negative than , at least then a large bill wont come as a surprise!

Looking back, since 2006 its passed with no advisories, and presumably no big expenpensive jobs, with only 2-3k miles between. Done about 4k miles since last mot, of which I have only done 1k tops of that due to Mav been at on the drive. I am hoping this counts for something, so at the very least I can afford any repairs for this ckp sensor, whcih I hoep in turn resolves the running issue..

know what your going through !,
I went online last week to get my road tax , and it said cant find MOT !, I went upstairs to get it and found that it was up in Aug !, Shocker, I booked it in for the next day and it passed no problem ! ( not bad for a 15year old motor)

Thanks guys, well, its in! I had to scrape ice from the inside before I could drive it, but she gave me no trouble at all. Almost killed myself on the way there, narrow road, on coming wagon, white van parked at angel with wheels full lock INTO the road..oops...i JUST missed the oncoming truck!

Jim-yes, much snow was had, but thankfully didnt settle. This morning is cold, -1, but thankfully I had no trouble with the Mav, I just hope everything goes ok, and it comes back fixed because I really want to drive it (I checked, I havent driven it for 4 months apart from two trips out to test repairs I did)

The garage I go to is pretty trust worthy, I have a fairly good pass rate with them on my previous cars, but this is my first MOT with the Maverick!

I dont have final results, yet, but spoke to Mech at 10:30am, he listed stuff like welding, trailing arm, suspension bush, drop link...not a good sign is it?

You might be surprised really cos things links aint too bad. Can't remember how much I paid to have sills or seatbelt mounts welded but it's agood strong repair and shouldn't need doing again for a long time.

right, I dont have the Mav back yet, so dont have the failure sheet, but I managed to get soem clue of costs out of the mech, and it loosk like the Mav has to go, because I simply cannot afford the costs of repair. He said the welding woudl be about £100, £200 labour, plus parts. Parts range from simple drop links to something to do with the steering, he says there was a bit of play (seemed fine to me) and that part is likely to be expensive.

Gutted.

Its got all new tyres on, with probably less than 100 miles on them. New starter, new positive wire, new ground, replaced the MAF, replaced ignition barrel, new breaks all round (pads ), new ish exhaust and it drives, well, fine! He said it probably just needs a brand new CKP sensor, but thats pointless to me now.

So, car is for sale or scrap, I have to get something back for it because I owe my other half the money, I am very open to offers or suggestions. I am very upset.

Current MOT runs out December 20th, IF I get what I want for it its got TAX till the May next year.

Dont panic , dont panic!!!
Get the fail sheet first to see WHAT it actually says. There's not much on the steering that cant be sorted easily and quite cheap. It's the welding we need to see whats what.

Pound to a pinch of poo it sthe steering idler - we know a man who does new bushes for those. Even if you get a new one they are fairly cheap, my old one faile don that and they came back with some stupid price for a new one, I rang milners and got one for less than 1/3 what they'd quoted.

As the man says get the sheet and lets see whats what - if the weathers good on saturday bring it over here and I'll see what I an do.

forgot to add, IF I can get it fixed much cheaper, I will be really happy, its the welding that bothers me. I have to get everthing done by the 20th, but suspect i might have to re test else where...?

will post the MOT sheet hopefully tomorrow, i really hope you guys can help some how!

Offside Rear sill Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.2)
Offside Front inner wing Brake master cylinder/servo mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (3.6.D.3)
Nearside Front Shock absorber has an excessively worn rubber bush (2.7.4)
Offside Front Shock absorber has an excessively worn rubber bush (2.7.4)
Nearside Front Anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.3)
Offside Front Anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.3)

Well he did say there was a bit of play in the steering Well with your balls n bushes shafted that's hardly surprising
Anyway a bunch of rubbers and joints are straight forward.
The sills are the easier bits to weld, even if it's on the inside. The devil will be the bulkhead area (probably cause thats where they go). More stuff to take off to get at the job. Did mine 6 weeks ago 50p worth of tin but half a day to do
Anyway not all doom n gloom eh
