RIP , a real hero
Not a footballer or a pop star, a REAL hero, Henry Allingham, died yesterday.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/ju...ldest-man-dies "He had two explanations for his longevity. The first, which proved age had not dimmed his sense of humour, was "cigarettes, whisky and wild, wild women"." .................. gets my vote If youve never read the book about him & WWI by Dennis Goodwin I can recommend it as a top read |

I saw the news on the BBC web site, it's very sad indeed.
This week I was in Castleford and parked behind a car with a poster in the back window. It had a photo of a young soldier and simply said "Our Hero James Backhouse". When I got back to my car the owner of that car was stood with me waiting for the traffic to clear. I spoke to him and it turned out to be his cousin. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bradford/8148410.stm The waste of young lives and tragedy that Henry saw is still going on. I have total respect for our countries service men and women. Jim T |
