Contime 905 unit
My interior courtesy light has not worked since owning my car (6 years) and told then by a Nissan dealer it was the Siemens contime 905 unit which sits on fuse box above the fuses. At the time I did not do it as it was very expensive to fix.
Now 6years,on last week I put my car into a different Nissan dealer to have work done so asked if while it was in could they give me a price to do this. They said the part was no longer made and they would fit a second hand part and gave me the price for the total work. I said go ahead as was sick of loading the back of my car in the dark. Picked my car up on Tuesday paid the bill when they told me the second hand part was not guaranteed. Long story short since picking up my car the Hazard lights are now not working. Does this unit have any bearing on the hazards. To top it off they snapped off a large chunk of the plastic interior trim and did not say anything. |

My interior light has never worked in the boot so I fitted a second hand one, fitted a bulb and it blew the fuse and knackered the unit so I'm going to re wire my own in at some point.

Extra info:
They charged me £188 to supply and fit the part which I thought was steep but thought it would at least been guaranteed. |

The light worked Elty, just not automatically.
I want to ring them but don't want to pay another £100 diagnostic test. |

yes the hazard lights are controlled by this unit.
Along with: Central locking & remote. Theft alarm Interior lights (as you know) Rear window demister Warning chimes There is a diagnostic procedure for this 'box', the details are in the EL section of the manual page ~183. It can all checked without any test gear.

Well I know that if I'd payed for something that wasn't done properly, I'd be visiting the garage every day until the problem's sorted.
They've fixed one problem, created another & broke off some trim. Go back & complain, just me sure there's lots of customers around |

Hi Chip, I'm sure with the help and advice on here you'll get it back to some kind of working and even replace the trim.

Make a well known phrase out of the following words,
Off Rip Did you have work done without a quote first? Why would a garage have a second hand unit, maybe it was a replacement and that was now faulty too. You stand a better chance at a breakers, back to the garage...

Now its just on all the time unless I switch it off manually. Not really had chance to have a proper look but got told it was a timer control unit that has most likely failed. Got a sneaking feeling the previous owner had trouble with this hence the reason the plastic light cover was broken and the wires disconnected. |

Hi all thanks for the input and rick for your kind offer.
I have not been on as to tell you the truth have been struggling with grief and anxiety. I am 42 and never lost anyone close to me before and never knew grief could be this hard. The car went back today and they fixed the hazards apparently by removing the switch, cleaning it and refitting. The plastic they broke is massive, it surrounds the rear left side window and goes partly over the rear door. They said they are still trying to source a replacement. I will at some point try and glue the broken piece back on and probably forget about it. Thanks again |
