Terrano 3 litre sve
Hi all, i,m new to this forum and new to 4x4s, never owned one in36 years of driving however, i,m looking at a Nissan Terrano 2003 3litre SVE.
74, 000 miles on the clock, just MOT,d, £1800 but the guy will go lower. I want it to pull an big aluminium fishing boat. Should i buy? Although shes a bit scruffy inside, have to say i like the look of her and very temptesd. Any thoughts advice. Thanks. |

Welcome aboard
They're great motors, had one for years but as said biggest issue is rust. 3litre can suffer a oil pressure sender unit fault but it's supposed to be an easy fix. Put it on full lock and go over some bumps and listed for a loud graunch, get a few quid knocked off and then buy a tub of grease to fix it. Rust areas that I've seen amd repaired below but don't be frieghtened by the list they are not a truck killer and once fixed they're fixed. Sills both inner and outer, look for paint bubbles towards the rear of the sills. Inside the rear wheel arch you'll see a nut and bolt, the seat belt anchor point. They rot out around there. Not as easy to spot below Front wheel arch up against the bulkhead and just down under the floor is the body mounting. Front inner wings Radiator support lower panel Boot floor, lift second row of seats and you'll find a carpet lap joint. Lift the carpet and look around. None of these to me are deal breakers but a good money off point. Expect front wings to bubble from the wheel arch plastic trims, if it has started remove the trims and waxoil. Expect anti roll bar links to go, they do but easy cheap fix. These from my experience with Terranos. Check weight of your boat and trailer to ensure they are within limits for the truck. Those beige leather seats can look scruffy when they crack, why on earth did Nissan decide beige was a good idea for a 4x4 There's probably not a problem or fault with these trucks that hasn't cropped up on here. Good Luck |

Welcome mate
The 3.0 litre is a nice engine, I had the pleasure of recently trying Blocky's be it on a Green Lane but it felt like it could pull a cruise liner never mind an aluminium fishing boat I have a SWB 2.7 Commercial and love it!!!!!

Hi Gavin and welcome to the forum. I've had a 2004 3.0l sve auto since the beginning of the year and love it, slightly higher mileage than yours when I got it. Jim is bang on the money with that list of points. Other things to look out for are what the exhaust is doing, mine's a bit sooty so I need to get the egr valve off at some stage and give it a good clean for starters.

You cannot run veg oil through them though, it will knacker the injection pump apparently. Take a torch and get him under to see how crusty it is. They all are unless it's been wax oiled or painted. And don't forget to suck plenty of air through your teeth Is it tan leather? Cos my sve is black |

Whats a chop box? Did you have a drive of mine mate that day? I know you sat in with me as a passenger, did you think it was quicker compared to a standard? I certainly feel the difference from driving a standard one

I have the exact same motor but with 150000 miles on it, still going strong!
Do not ever use bio diesel or veg oil!! If Solarman wasn't around to sort out my problem with the previous owner running it on chip oil it would of cost me a lot of money to put right. |
