Question Switching Energy Provider - again !

Well after lots of time on various price comparison websites I have decided its time to switch again.

This is only my 4 th switch since de-nationalisation and I have decided to go with OVO energy.
First Utility were cheaper but the customer feedback for them is awful whereas OVO were very good and was "Which" recommended.

I am not sure how much I will save in real terms but the electricity standard rate is 11.29 p per kWh with B.G. at 17.47 on my tariff so I have taken the plunge. Have gone for the Dual Fuel option.

It's often the get out charges that cause the hassle, we need to switch, but having switched a bank account once... never again, standing orders were not paid, we went into arrears, in fact it was the electricity and gas bills that wern't paid...

Yes we should change...

I had a couple of years with OVO and they were great, much better than the previous supplier who buggered around on the changeover.
An email reminder every month to upload the meter readings, monthly payments that ensure they're not lining their pockets unnecessarily. All good stuff.

Luckily no exit fee with my particular deal with B.G. I do actual monthly reads and pay accordingly so there is no surprise arrears bill when I leave.Plus no exit fees with OVO one of the reasons I did not go with First Utility amongs many other reasons.

When I moved from RBS to Co-op Bank about 4 years ago I chose the option not to close my old account so no glitches when direct debits etc were taken over as I could see them all migrate online. As my RBS account was from the days when I was with William & Glynns it was an old one that had no benefits but also no minimum monthly credit so we use it now as a sweep account to save up for big stuff like the next 4 x 4.

Wife is with Santander and they keep trying to convert her to the "123" version every time we visit. I see the monthly "123" account fee has just gone up from £2 to £5 in one go!

It is obvious Santander want to charge for accounts again as do most banks so introducing a fee with claimed benefits is an easy way to get customers onto the "123" deal. Once they get you on that then I can see fee charges going up on a regular basis.

Hmm I would not save much then as we only consume around 6 to 7 Kw hours per day often much less, Rick

Moneysavingexpert.com have a good comparison site. I have recently switched via their system and my combined gas/electric bill is now approx £42/month with eon.

This was one of those mass switch deals where they negotiate the rate for X thousand potential switchers.

Worth a look.
