Default New to site and Terrano ownership

Hello to you all I'm a new boy so steady on, bought the T2 1999 se touring 2 weeks ago after buying a caravan earlier this year after years of happy camping and freezing. We live in Stoke staffs, t2 was a one owner lovely looking thing so what could go wrong, well we love it but yesterday I gave the o/s front bumper hanger a squeeze and my hand came out holding it, now depressed and now worried about crossmember, does anyone know anyone local ish to me that welds these up, sold the welder years ago after selling my last series 2a landy. I'm 56 and very familiar with the saying, don't judge a book by its cover, oh dear!!!. Big thanks for any help. Tony

Hi,

Welcome to the forum

Did you have a real good look under at the chassis & cross members etc?

They do have common areas that rust, front wings also go bad. By the time you see the rust bubbles near the plastic, it's very bad under the plastics.

Anyway, not going to depress you further. This is a great forum and the guys on here are really helpful, oh and there are some who must have pictures (don't know if they can read?)

Enjoy...

Thanks Paff, chassis and sills etc seem very good but as you said I have a few bubbles above the plastic on o/s wing only. It's either fix or sell and lose money as I can only be honest with people. Truck has only done 65k

Welcome aboard. We have some members near you so youre not alone.
Im assuming it's the crossmember that the radiator sits on? If so common problem and loads of people on here fixed them. My 1996 truck has loads of new metal on it, once it's welded it's fixed. Nice low miles so it has to be a keeper, shame you are not nearer Barnsley as one or two of us have visited a bloke that welds at a reasonable price.
Don't get to down hearted just yet, it's early days and Im sure people will be along with advice. I guess first thing to do is take the bumper off and see what's what.

Howdy and welcome buddy, nothing to worry about, just time consuming and some cash, with 65k miles on the clock your laughing! These lumps have been known to go on way over 500k in black cabs, one driver reporting over 1,ill ion miles.

I met a chap who was on 640,000 miles no blown gaskets or leaking seals, two gearboxes tho

Sounds about right, sold landy and sold welder

It's a great place here, settle in and grab a seat

Welcome to the forum!
Check one of my first posts about bubbling on the front wings - easy to repair yourself with fiberglass. Especially if your T2, like mine, has an easy colour to respray from a can

It's not the cross member that the rad sits on its the actual bumper carrier that looks like it bolts on the cross member and seems to go right across the front, thanks to you all again For your help I wondered if this piece is available to buy

Is it this part (No5 - Reinforce-front bumper center, inner)? (I've got a Trol so can't confirm myself!)

http://nissan4u.com/parts/terrano2/e...llustration_1/

£323.32 inc VAT (exc shipping) from http://www.online-parts.co.uk/nissan/

Terrano guys may suggest an alternative

Welcome by the way

Second hand front bumper from a breakers yard. Theres several people on here breaking terranos, send zippy a pm and ask for contact details for cncfabs. Certainly a nice easy fix but theyre heavy so best collect in person.
You could also drop Banshee a pm for contact details of someone he deals with called James.
