Not So Merry Christmas

So here we are in Spain, 4 days till Christmas, and the son-in-law decided to move my Terrano and reversed it into a tree - bough hit the top of the rear door window frame, denting the frame and smashing the heated rear window.

I now have to find someone in the Fuengirola area who can repair the dent, then see if I can get a new rear window on the insurance, all before Christmas.

With only polythene over the hole all things of any value have had to be taken out, can't even leave it with shopping in it due the number of scallies in the area - deep joy!

Oh no, thats a shame. Similar here our patio window mechanism has finally gone, cant be repaired due to its age so we are stuck with the only access into back garden screwed closed. The poor dogs have to have leads on and taken around the front and a great big bill for a replacement door in January.

Try not to let it spoil your christmas, all the best.

If you are going the route of replacing the door in the long run, then get some ply, some sealant, some coach bolts. and drill through the door, put double lock nuts on inside... sorted.
Secure, weather proof and quick to do.

If you want to keep the door, then ply both sides, coach bolts through the window gap.... again secure. Some Gaffa tape over the outside ply... weather proof.

Paint the outer ply matt black, and very few will notice from a distance.

TIP...
Use several layers of thin ply, and they will follow the contours of the rear door without denting it any more.

Some excellent advice there guys, thank you one and all. I'm going to see a Spanish Autoglass-type company tomorrow (Mon) to see if there is anything they can do with the existing door, if not the plywood option seems good. Ideally I would like to replace the whole door but I need to find one close to Coin in Andalucía (Malaga area) as I have no means of transporting the replacement long distances as I imagine it will not fit inside the car.

Failing the above I will see if I can find a body shop who can knock out the dent in the frame (not going to be easy, it's right beside the rear washer jet where the metal is double skinned) but worth a shot.

At least all windows are covered by my Spanish insurance, with no excess!

How about a Roof rack, you should be able to pickup a door in the same colour, then transport it back to Spain

Hopefully a result - Carglass in Fuengirola say they can repair the dent in the frame and fit a new heated rear window, 12.00 tomorrow (Tues), all covered by the insurance.

Brand spanking new heated rear window fitted, dent sort of beaten/pulled out, well, sufficiently to fit the screen with a big dollop of sealant to bridge the not inconsequential gap, have to wait for some rain to see how effective the seal is. At least it didn't cost me a cent!

Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.
