Are BT ripping me off?
In the last few days I have has two emails from BT, saying I am getting close to my 40Gb download limit, and soon they are going to charge me extra for every Gb I go over this.
When I originally contracted to BT for fibre optic Broadband, it was unlimited... So now they have moved the goal posts to enable them to charge me more. We have opted for free calls 24/7 to UK land lines, this does not give us free calls to mobiles, and calls abroad cost a fortune. We are currently paying.... wait for this.. over £50 per month to BT. They now want us to pay even more to keep the original condtions of unlimited... We had also set up for their remote hotspot "fon" system, which no longer seems to work in areas it previously did. I have also removed their so called McAfee virus protection, as it slows down the computer, so What am I getting for£50 a month? Time to change providers. Can anyone suggest a better supplier at a more realistic price, and also we need to look at a mobile phone package, as ours is Orange, pay as you go, and all calls and texts are chargeable. So maybe some package that combines all. Thanks for reading this so far, best regards, Richard (Rustic)

Firstly I doubt you'll find one all singing package or we'd all be on it. So I suggest you look on U switch and research from there. In my case I binned BT two years ago for similar reasons. Now have Talk Talk and unlimited and all calls included except mobiles. I get mobile numbers free on my mobile (well inclusive) However TT do a bolt on to make mobiles cheaper to call .
If you have good 4g coverage your way that could be an option. Anyway U Switch is a good start, then ring BT and say your leaving and get a better deal from them if you wish |

Yes, as a few mention above we are with Virgin too, have been for about 5 years. and about another 5 at my old family home.
When the service works, its ace, fast broadband, great tv choice and plenty of phone packages. The only down side to Virgin it the so called "customer support" usually 1000's of miles away and getting a technician out to have a look or replace a faulty box can be a week easy. Once a tech comes out tho they replace it on the spot, usually get the old skool english chap just slap a new box on n "give it a go" We pay just shy of £90 a month for tv, broadband and phone all in one. We signed up for 60mb speeds (unlimited download) actually their packages have changed dramatically, we are meant to call them as the options are something like 80mb, 120mb and 150mb now, so ours is out dated... You need to find one of those broadband websites and see whos the best provider in your area, you can see people who have saved specific speed tests ect |

I don't know what's going on Rustic as i'm on unlimited down load, free day & evening calls to normal landlines etc & we are paying about £28 for it all & also have the FON which at the min is down as BT have updated the APP & it doesn't which they are trying to fix. Are you sure the emails are from BT & not fakes as i've had loads of fake emails over the last year from banks, ebay, paypal etc if you out of the contract time they will prob redo you a better deal if you tell them your going to leave

Funny you should post this... We only use the phoneline for broadband, so signed up to one of those pre-pay deals, where you pay the line rental up front for 12months...
We have had no end of issues, as even though we explained exactly what we wanted the phone line for, the guy insisted on adding a package that gave us CLI, and free evening and weekend calls, as they were free. When we paid up After we had paid for the 12months, they then decided to charge for these packages. When we said we did not want the add on, they said we would have to take out a new 12month contract with them, to get them removed, even though we did not ask for them in the first place. Now we have had an Email to say that they are putting the prices up again, so we too are looking to dump them. I am looking at going down the 4G route, and using a dongle for the internet. |
