Advice on Price....

Hi all just got my new to me Terrano 2 LWB and I'm wanting to fit a towbar Indiespension has quoted me £210 fitted is that a good price?

That would pain me to have to spend that kind of money on something you could do yourself

Why not have a crack, I'm sure member on here have done this

I have,
In fact I still have a spare BRINK tow bar 4 bolt tow ball, but not EU approved, so OK for pre "S" reg vehicles I think... tbc
Weighs a ton... much heavier duty than the Witter one though.
Swapped for a Witter, as couldn't get the ball high enough for the boat trailer with the Brink.


Mechanically... 6 bolts to fit in pre drilled holes. 10 minutes.
But will require a torque wrench, as always. As per instructions.

Electrics... straight forward, for the basic 7 pin "N" socket, no fancy electronics, most wiring can be found behind the rear near side panel, as can a grommet to run the cable out.
Takes a bit longer though... Maybe an hour plus.

Towsure in Sheffield have all the bits.

To do it yourself with new parts, I guess around £120 or less.

Fitting the towbar is simplicity itself - just four bolts, no cutting or changes to the car at all. Fitting the electrics is the most time consuming bit, but again not difficult. A hole will have to be drilled to get the 7 core cable into the car, big enough to take the cable plus a grommet (seem to remember I used a 12mm drill, just below the offside rear light. I pushed down on the plastic bumper to position the hole so that it is virtually hidden once the bumper springs back up). Once the cable is through the grommet into the car a bit of black mastic around the grommet/cable will ensure it is watertight.
It's then a matter of tracing which cables feed the various electrical fittings (rear lights, reversing lights, indicators, brake lights, number plate light, earth and rear fog).
I normally use Scotchloks to connect the seven strands to their various positions (some members on here don't like Scotchloks, but I have been using them for years and have never had a problem)
Most wiring kits come with a diagram showing which of the seven coloured strands goes where.

I got my towbar from CNCFABS
From the loom on nearside follow the cables to the rear lights, no need to make a hole

It looks so straight forward, I can only see two bolts each side on the witter towbar I have on my T2. Wiring is also straight forward... have a go yourself

It not the fitting if the bar it's the electrics....need a 13 pin for my caravan.... thats the part I'll need help with....m

No can be any day, judd750 and bigbunny have organised the last 2 but got to set a date for next one. Am sure he will fill you in if he fits you a tow bar mate.

hi, meetings can be any day, but i try to go every other month on or around the first of the month, usually a week day,

if you fancy a meet up and a chat before the next meet i can PM you if you like,
