Laptop issues :/
Help me oh learned ones, you're my last hope
I have an ancient lappy that works on XP pro BUT for some reason it just won't let me download anything off the net It may be slow and that but it only has to stream music from my pc to my hi-fi set up. So can anyone tell my why I get this error report within 5 seconds of ANY download attempt ? I've done every and all updates the thing has asked for and it says it's running IE8 |

Its almost certainly because its an .exe file, thats an executable, meaning its a program that can run without being extracted first so its probably being blocked....

Hi, sounds TOO obvious have you checked a/ the cable b/ the router, have you moved the router lately, dusting it can dislodge a plug
If you do not have a cable checker use a cable you know works. Some cables have solid wires that break and make contact when it suits them Go into IE see if the laptop can 'see' the router, usually 192.168.0.1, if that fails RTFM IAEF contact your ISP tell them the internet is down, they will talk you through it. good luck dave one last thing, when did you last defrag it? |

I would try a system restore to an earlier date? You may have 'upset' something or installed something that is not compatible or causing conflict.
Start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore |

I think defragging the hard drive is a good idea, but has nothing to do with your download problem. It will take about 2 days to defrag.
