Gas/Electric Kwh bill questions?
Did my meter readings today. I usually forget so Scottish Power have to remind me
It is all done online but I never check it, just pay the DD Well today I logged in to my account and cast my eyes over our useage and I am puzzled by it. Hoping some of you might post their useage so I can compare because somethings doesn't seem right. Why am I puzzled? It's the Average consumption figures. I cant understand how the Gas kWh is so high compared to the electric kWh? Bill period: 09/05/13 - 19/08/13 Number of days: 103 Electricity (kWh)Total:591 Daily Average:6 Gas (kWh) Total:3461 Daily Average:34 Background: Just me and the Mrs in a 2 bed mid terrace. At work during the day. Not had the heating or the fire on at all. Just hot water The Bill: 3Month Period 9/5/13 - 8/8/13 (Actual 9/5/13-19/8/13) |

Inc in electric is a tumble drier, microwave, main cooker has a fan oven (with gas hob).. it's basically everything except the Hot water. Mrs likes a soak after work so maybe 3/4 a week half-full baths.?? Only Gas we've got is the Hob, Fire, Boiler.

clear as mud exactly. So a little experiment if you will chaps. List your Gas meter Daily use.
Here is mine as I took a reading yesterday. 19/8/13 04903 20/8/13 04905 Useage = 2units. (1unit=11.5kWh ) 23kWh/day Here is how to work out kWh from gas units: Gas units used X Calorific Value 39.3 X Volume Correction 1.0422640 / 3.6 = Gas used in kWh Or this does it for you: http://www.energylinx.co.uk/gas_meter_conversion.html |

I hope your neighbour hasn't tapped into your gas supply, and is growing things in his loft.
I know they do it for the electric. He might have a gas powered generator Try turning off all appliances, and monitor gas usage over a few hours, incase there is a leak somewhere.

boiler only comes on with hot water tap. fire not been on since May. Gas hob isn't used much really, possibly 30mins /night. no problem with electric. my yearly consumption is estimated at 2903kWh for electric i'm fine with that.
But 20718kWh for Gas I just can't see it. only 2 of us |

your gas does seem high, but running the bath is eating into the gas, same with taps, and the gas hob. Is your boiler running ok, when was it last serviced?

High Gas use
My mate had a £1500 gas bill after a lot of issues he had Gas leak people out and they found he had a leak under his kitchen floor and cut him off for safety.
They gave him a year to pay for the lost gas though and not a whiff in the house when it was leaking. I would do some daily checks over next 3 days and if use is high call them in for a gas leak check it is free for safety reasons I understand. If you smell gas or are worried about gas safety, you can call 0800 111 999* at any time, day or night. Your call will not cost you anything**. Just pick up the phone, dial the number and you will be put through to a trained operator who will take all the details. |
