can someone identify this plug and scoket

Looks almost like the ones for electric hookup on caravans, but they are usually blue/white instead of red/white

3 phase version of what see on building sites as yellow 110v and caravan sites 230v blue.

As above three phase we have them at work on welders and things

It is used on heavy current single phase equipment, like big compressors, mills, lathes etc. Basically, it is rated at 32amp, rather than the 16amp of the blue and white ones.

thats it, two phases and earth this would give you 380v-415v across the phases.

yellow plugs = 110volts

blue plugs = 230v-240 volts

red plugs = 380v 415 volts.

thanks for the info my dad uses it for and old big oil cooled stick welder single phase i need somethinga bit bigger than 13a socket really need 16a but seams this is already wired in i was going to get another plug so i can run my plasma cutter at full wack and cut 12mm still plate as i need to make up another turbo flange as found out 1 i got from ebay 6 months ago was wrong 1 so i thought i would cut 1 out of 12mm steel plate

If the socket is wired correctly it will have 415Vrms between the pins i.e line to line and this will give you a high voltage single phase supply (no neutral). Ideal for large welders as the current is lower than the standard 240V mains.
If you connect equipment requiring 240V to this socket the resultant bang may be very expensive.

supply is 2phases from a 3 phase supply.
not normal in domestic premises though, so check your supply, you should have 2 or even 3 electric meters, Red, Blue or Yellow phases. meters will have a coloured collar to identify which phase.

CAUTION....

iIt may be this plug was chosen for its current carrying capacity rather than the 380/415 volt phase to phase.
if it is a phase to Neutral, then this will be 240 volts and they have used the WRONG plug/ socket, if it is it would be best to use the blue type.

So check your supply at the main fuse box, ie by the meters, then check the supply on the Red socket, using the higher voltage range on the meter, and take EXTRA care 415 volts will fry you...
