Default What do you reckon?

Hello all, I'm looking at buying a 3ltr Sport on an 03 plate. Its done 52,000 5 door with seven seats. Its had main dealer history all its life except the last one which was done at an independant. Its in excellant condition and he wants 4k its a private deal, what do you think of this good or bad?

Happy new year to you all,

Regards Colin

About £600-800 too dear in my opinion

Regardless of mileage or history a 10 year old car really needs to be taken for what it is, what it needs doing to make it mint.

I've spent about £800 on mine in parts getting it mint, if it was took to a garage and I'd paid labour too, I'd have been ruined

If you offroad it regularly anything a tad worn will fail quickly, so if its been nursed gently for 10 years and you drive it a bit harder things could fail relatively quickly.

It might not happen like this, it might have lots of new parts, but this is food for thought ...

I paid £2200 for my '02 11 months ago, it had 135k on it but body is mint as is engine

Sounds like a nice one, but a bit steep on the price for the year, although that is low mileage which does help and the service history is a good sign,(call the dealer and check to be sure) so if it's that good, make him an offer of £3400 and see what he says.

Have a good look underneath and check the inner wheel arches in front of the rear wheels for rot, they can rust here and it's close to the seatbelt points.
Check the front cross member in front of the engine also.
Good luck

At £3400 I'd want a full service, 6 months tax and 12 months mot, also I'd want 3 months warranty

Oh it's private seller ain't it

IMO offer him £3k with 12 months mot, pay no more than £3250

Tell him you've seen 04/05 for £3500... because there's plenty out there at that money

Remember..............Its a buyers market.

There are plenty out there, take your time and dont pay over the odds.

As already posted 4K is well over priced.

Also, the 3ltr wont run on cooking oil and will need Diesel all the time. I run both my 2.7Ltr on cooking oil for 80p Ltr. Masive savings to be had there.

Also the 2.7 engine is almost bomb proof if its looked after and good for 200,000 mile +.
