Got a van today...NOW LET THE QUESTIONS BEGIN..

Got a Avondale 2 berth van today, and inside there is a 240 volt cable with 2 household plugs on it.
Anyone any idea what it's for?

Also is there a cable that you can plug into the house so you can have the 240 volt on in the van?

You should have a long lead(usually orange!) with a blue plug either end,one plugs into the caravan and the other end into the site electric point.
You can get adaptors that plug into the end and have a 13amp plug on it so you can plug it in at home!!

if the cable has a domestic plug on each end, get rid, serious potential
for electric shock.

guessing home made so can plug into socket in house/shed, and a
socket in the van, then mains spread thru vans internal 240 wiring.

dodgy as bypassing vans circuit breakers if it has any, and clearly
van end plug is live to touch if loose whilst still pugged in at house end.

this is if i read you to mean 13 amp plugs each end and not plug one
end socket the other in which case disregard comments but on basis
someone could be daft enough to make such a lead up......

if van doesnt have proper mains installation, kits are available,
towsure etc, dont cut corners as proper earthing and circuit
breakers are needed.

as said if you have a proper h/d outdoor mains cable, usually 25
metres long with 'industrial' blue connectors then adapter are
available to connect to the house end, on site a blue female
connection is provided.

Paul, I am impressed that you are asking the questions, wow if anyone was in the van when this cable was connected ?
Think about the real blue hook up plug, this will have pins on it and if the circuit breaker was on, then these pins would be live. They might have been accessible to children or animals as this connector would be accessible from the outside of the van, usually under a small flap.
This would be a lethal combination, and under EU law would be illegal and if anyone was hurt or worse would have very serious consequences.
When you connect the correct cable to the van as described in the earlier post, I would suggest that you have an RCD trip at the house end, (Residual Circuit Device) that trips if there is a leakage of 20mA to earth. Similar to the ones you use for a lawn mower.
Check the circuit breaker in the van BEFORE you use any appliances in the van. Good luck with your caravan.

Another question, we have a Caver 2000 heater, anyone know how long they take to get warm & if they throw alot of heat out.

Trying out the hot water boiler last night and found a leak, water running down from the flue cover, took it of and the pressure relief valve is cracked, well it was.. ops: now it's in the bin, fell of in my hand.

So taking the boiler out I also broke the cold water feed pipe,
Ordered all 3 plastic bit's should be here tue's.. I HOPE.

If it's the type of water heater that has the square shaped flue on the side of the van there is a small drain plug. This needs draining before any frost is due, may be why your valve was cracked.

Same goes for the screw in water filter cartridge on the water inlet, remove it to drain and then screw back in again. When you drain any of the water systems turn a tap on to let the air in so the water will run out.

Thats the one, had read about draining the water heater, but not about the filter.
