im pleased for briggie and the charity he is sponsoring . but why do you need to do exams and tests etc. what is the big deal with ham ? i know lots do it and great ive just often wondered what its all about and what its used for . i know it might seem like a thread hijack but maybe an explanation might highlight what the deal is ! well done briggie, awaiting torpedoes ! |

No torpedo's mate, just what ever floats your boat. Ham Radio is diverse, lots of different aspects and challenges.
But back to it, well done Pete Jim |

many thanks everyone , it was indeed hard work , but helped tremendously by jim and his team
as for why i did it ,.. interesting question amatuer radio is a hobby , but also serves a very usefull purpose in times of national emergency/ search and rescue/event monitoring etc. cb only uses a fairly narrow band ( 27mhz) but amatuer radio uses a vast amount of frequencies and potentially vast amounts of output power too , so obviously there has to be some kind of regulation enforced as to the people that are allowed to use all these frequencies so as not to interfere with other services ,there are many more reasons but not enough space here |
