Default Volvo

Anyone know anything much about the XC90's ???

Went to look at a newer Grand Cherokee today and have to be honest, bit of a disappointment fot the dosh plus the sales man was a bit of a tit. Apart from anything else I needed to get their version of supagard ( s/h car !!!!) @ £480 because "polishing a cr can damage it"

Its great when you play dim isnt it

However next door Volvo have ome cracking deals on XC90's but I know co#k all about them

I was tempted to get one for Her Indoors, a friend of mine has bought one and she loves it!

The company my daughter and son in law work for have just bought out a Volvo dealership and so they are getting trained in the Volvo technical stuff so I might be able to point you in the right direction for some technical support if you decide to buy

Right. We're on our 4th company xc90 having amassed something like 300k in them. Started with an early LPG'd T6.

Talking about diesels in the main careful on:

Auto boxes can play up and *need* fluid changes despite being "sealed for life". Life expectancy otherwise is about 120k, less if its towed any amount. If planning to tow more than a bean can, you must have the autobox cooler increased in size (they are modular)

Some model / years have strange sized expensive tyre options.

Auto 163 D5's can be almost dangerously slow pulling away. A chip totally transforms them.

Intercoolers especially on 185's is a "consumable" part- they bulge and split.

4wd haldex coupling generally relaible unless its been abused.

Dash can loose some of its gauges / exhibit random warning lights at random, especially earler models, pre 05. HVAC generally ok, but if it has the built in phone and the HVAC panel goes wrong its mega money.

Injectors can go faulty- £350 a piece. Ensure you see the car fire up from stone cold, it must do so immediately and on all cylinders.

Manuals can suffer with DMF failure, a rattle at ~3200rpm is the tell tale. £1000+. Crank seal and starters usually need changing as well as the dust gets in em.

Front engine mount can burst- it's an air bag (lorry style) inflated by boost pressure. Failure results in more engine noise and management light on with an 'air mass meter' fault. Not many people know about this.

If it has sat nav, ensure you allow for buying the current CD only available from volvo. £200.

For servicing, avoid the dealers and find a *GOOD* specialist.

Would we have another one? Yes probably.

How's that for starters?

Cheers Timbo keep em coming.

Realistically I'm in 07 to 08 territory, prefer the auto box and must be diesel.

Ive heard the petrol ones described as "oil field draining thirst" when towing.

Supaguard....don't bother!

Paint Sealant - £5 Car Shop

Scotchguard - £5 Supermarket

Window Etch - £8 at a carpark near you, or try a police station.

Vinyl Protector - £4 a bottle.

Job done!

i bought a 59 plate BMW 118d yesterday for a client from a dealer. He did the usual speal of this and that, then dragged out the "Care & Protect" booklet from the desk drawer and started on "for £399 every 12months...." I said no disresepect mate, but that's 2 years worth of valeting, put that snake oil away!

You'll need an Abba CD.
