I remember a rainy night 1985/86 ish travellng with a mate to wakefield of all places to look at one of those.

At the time it wasnt a classic in fact i seem to recall they were in the not wanted almost banger group.

He didnt buy it because the bloke wanted to much.

Maybe he knew something we didnt back then

I'm keeping my Mav.... just hoping.

16 years so far, so when does it become a classic then...

you can get classic insurance with some companies after 15 years, but it's normally 20-25 years, but the mav will have fallen a part by then lol

were they the ones that were out in the very early range ? the body shape was very cossie style only with pram wheels and non tinted glass etc??? I seem to recall someone i worked with had one in white on an A plate though tbh i cant recall if it was a maybe 1600 but i do think it was a 1300. I do know it had a job overtaking a mates 1300 cavalier. You could walk faster than the cav

i used to 'know' a girl with a 1.3 Capri, the one with the little boot not a hatch. She drove me all the way to Paignton in it (some of it with only one hand on the wheel ) then she said 'which way do i go now?' I answered 'straight over the lights.' Big mistake - i had assumed she would wait until they were on green! The Capri and some shocked lads fiesta super sport were no more, and i almost went through the window screen -happy days.

mate that was the one. absolutely gutless

it was over head cam or commonly called a pinto engine not the overhead valve or crossflow

yep the 2 door sierra got deleted very quickly, perhaps to allow a gap before it
reappeared as the cosworth and whale tail.

at time there were kits in fast car and the like to upgrade it.

odd as the xr4i had a different 2 door shell to start with, almost a 4 door by
number of pillars, but without back doors. saw such an xr4i in tenby last
summer had to drool, a reg or may be b reg, impressed still on road as most
hot hatches of that age have long since been wrapped round trees etc.

ah those 1.3s, followed on from cortina 1.3 i guess, think father in law had
a mk2 1.3 tina, even tried towing with it!
