sorry guys ... i totaly disagree with the fix for now...

my view is if the engine is dead or past repair. then id go with the popular vote...

but its not dead . its just making the odd noise... and a noise no one can actually say what is causing it...

my vote is... just kin drive it , and enjoy it . if it blows then look at whats left. only then can you decide to fix it.
you got nothing to loose. you might even find its not going to go bang and its something totally innocent making the noise

They still seem to think the noise is either number 3 of 4 big end about to let go. As the garage is well over 100 miles from me there is no way I can get over there and have a look for myself.

We have £149 still left in Briggie's fund and I have received pledges from members here who have offered more if we can see a way forward.

There are two options here, either sell the truck as is and try and recoup some of the loss or, see if we can raise enough to source a secondhand engine and get Pete mobile again.

It would be nice to see this one to the end and get Pete back on the road. Due to the distance I can not offer any physical help but am more than happy to put another £25 in the pot.

If anyone else has any other options please do shout up but, for obvious reasons, time is of the essence here.

It is probably not a lot of use as I am on South Coast but I can offer a workshop and fitter for free to change briggies engine over, I may even be able to transport his motor down here given a little time, Regards Rick

I agree. I would just drive the fooking thing. I bought my wife an old 2.5L petrol Jeep Cherokee a few years back for £900. This had the same knocking sound when we got it (I suspected engine bearings) so I just stuck some molyslip into the oil and it just kept going for years and years until the wife wanted a newer car.

The only downside is if it does totally give up then Briggie is stuck as my understanding is that he has used his quota of recoveries?

Can't we put some of the £149 left in the pot towards joining him to another recovery service? That way Briggie is mobile while a more comprehensive plan can be put together just in case the engine gives up. You never know, it might just run and run.

Pleased to contribute to the fund again if required though.
