Air, the injection has to be timed precisely or you would get the boom before the piston got high enough in the cylinder and then the boom would try and push it back down again, not what you want, Rick

So is the fuel injected timing as would be a spark in a petrol engine? My thinking was it was the compression of fuel and air that caused the bang. I don't think I will ever fully understand dirty diesel. Quite ironic this because if I can't find an air leak and a filter change doesn't stop my engine diesel knocking it's cods off I shall be starting a new thread on diesel timing on Mon.

Chris at tunit has a fully refurbished one in stock that he said he'd do me for £174 delivered, saves a few quid over the new one.
I may contact that place at shefield and see what they say though. Derv doctor quoted me £300 so seems that's the ball park for remapping? |

I bought mine direct from Tunit as a Factory refurb, as did a few others on here. It'll be fine. Go for it

yes you got it in one, it really is easy, compress air and it gets hot, compress it enough and it will ignite finely atomized fuel, (from an injector) it really is not a boom but a finely controlled burn, makeitfit has to control his gas content in the induction air finely to avoid a fully combustible mix, if he gets it wrong then it is likely to burn well before TDC with very bad results, he knows what he is doing so has avoided this, but would not mind betting that in the early stages he got some rather odd noises from the engine from over gassing it, Rick

Looking at these also but just wondering, if they are pre programmed for the standard engine can you use these safely if you already have modifications, air filter and exhaust for example?

if any one wants a run down on exactly what extra performance entails please let me know and I will do my best in layman's terms to explain, Rick

When I spoke to Tunit a few years back I explained my engine mods. I was told all will be fine and the tunit will simply exaggerate any improvements. Remember the Tunit is variable and as such you can turn it up to 11 if you want my kinda box or somewhere in the middle for a nice torque boost and fuel gains
