Okay folks thought it was about time I posted an update!

Just finished week 3 of training and about to start week 4. From an initial 30 that signed up we have 20-24 regular attendees (the week past was the last week for new starts so I think they'll start being harder on regular non-attendees now).

Week 1 was an eye-opener, range of body sizes, shapes and fitness levels... but none of us ready for the intensity of training! (I knew it was going to be hard as on chiropractor's orders I'd not trained for 2.5 months, but bugger me it was an awakening - sweat was steaming off all of us! )

Fight night training is Monday night and Thursday night and since that first week, on the recommendation of the trainers, my mate Jamie and myself have been attending a couple extra boxing club sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays and we're both really noticing the difference. One or two of the other trainees have come to a few extra sessions too although not with any regularity which is a shame as I reckon I'm starting to see a bit of difference - Thursday night we were in three groups switching round training exercises which included a session on the bags while getting watched by one of the trainers and everyone except Jamie and I got corrections on our bag technique which I'm taking as a good sign!

Anyway I'm loving the training and feeling a lot fitter already and as I guessed, I'm in the heavyweights at 96/97kg. When we started out I was knackered after 10 mins of bag work, on Friday i did a whole hour on the bag and was still ready for a session of circuits at the end of it

I've actually been getting a bit more bag/pad work than everyone else after a slight misshap at the first training night of week 2... first session of light sparring, opponent was a new trainee on his first night, noticeably heavy handed and flailing around like a madman. I got in and decided to forget the little bit of training I'd done previously and just give him as good as I got we each traded a few hooks to the head and blows to the face then I stupidly dropped my guard a little and stuck out my chin CRACK! A blow to the jaw which rattled my head

Apparently I swayed forward and almost went down before straightening up and raising my hands again. At that point the trainer called me over and looked at my eyes "you're dazed mate, go and sit down", and that was pretty much me for the rest of that night. Managed some slight bag work but the mother of headaches was starting to appear by that point. Long story short I was told by the trainers no more sparring for two weeks in case I had concussion, hence extra bag and pad work while the rest sparred - I'm itching to get back in the ring! Tomorrow nights the night...

Anyway thought I'd finish on a couple of photos (sorry they're topless by the way - don't you lads with sidesteps go getting any ideas! ) Oh, and as I'd thought the photos on the website are old ones. We've all had photos taken but I don't know when they'll be going up

20 January just before heading to first training session.

07 February after my Friday boxing session, things are just looking a bit tighter and trimmer.

It's alright you don't have side steps

So you don't have to wait two weeks for concussion right?

I've been able to do all the other training but not spar in case I got hit in the head again (and had concussion from the being dazed). It happened near the start of the training session two weeks ago tomorrow so I'll be fine to go back in the ring tomorrow night

Just don't get too "trigger happy"

You wanna be like one of those refined well trained hidden snipers.

He waits and waits and then boom! One shot finishes the day .

Also the less you flail about the less the other guy will be able to judge you.

Good point, well made bud Tbh with the bit of light sparring I've done before I knew enough to know better than to flail about like I did a fortnight ago I was just too keen to get down to it and didn't think

We'll see how I get on tomorrow night - sods law we don't do any sparring
