Yip the 300TDI is the one to get TD5's are crap engines, you'll be replacing the injector harness every year, heads cracking is very common & they ain't cheap by no means & the TD5 parts cost more if your going to LR hunt around for a mint 300TDI as you'll save money in the long run but watch out for shot bulkheads on them all & loads of water leaks in the cab & being cold in the winter

I drove a 12 plate 110 van in the snow, it's a works vehicle and I had it for a week for standby purposes, I can say that I prefer the Terrano, the LR cabin heater was crap, never got hot, just warm and the driving position is cramped I'm 5.6 and 11 stone, so not big.
I found it was not stable on the road and swayed around a lot, although I did have some tools and kit, but not masses of stuff, so should have handled better, it had trouble getting on to my snow bound drive, were as the Terrano goes straight on.

I think the worse thing about the LR is the cramped cabin though, I wouldn't want to do long journeys in one.

If they're so shit how come they fetch so much money ?

Like a 2001 defender is £5k for a crap one

A 2001 Terrano is £1500-2500

much of it is how iconic they are and parts are cheap. Defenders have their pros and cons.

Heaters need to be set up right, Mine was working a treat.

Tbh I have no carpets in my Terrano, it's cold as **** driving to work then I work outside all day most of the time, I reckon defender heaters won't be too much of an issue for me boys

Hi, there worth so much cos people spent so much to keep them running ,sounds like your guna try one you will think it's great to start with when u've got your landrover pants on ,take it from someone who knows i've had them for years i used to race them one word of advice i can give you to save you a fortune stick with the tdi's they are the best, in my opinion 200 are better they both have no stupid electrics on and good on diesel, keep the transmission standard if you start upgrading one bit you have to upgrade the lot as it goes further down the line with them and they still break after that i've got a friend who has spent the best part of £6000 on the running gear and it still breaks it's making him miserable he hates it,if i were you try one but keep the transmission standard

Ok. I'm looking hard now. Been drinking and belive it or not I'm having a moment of clarity, common sense is prevailing ...

This vehicle will be my work truck and as a joiner it needs to be smart and practical

I'm struggling to reason why a 15 year old defender at £6k is a sensible option, when a 7 year old jap double cab is better looking and more reliable and arguably just as capable

Something like this :

I always think they're a grumpy motor just look at the front on shot here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/L200-Mitsi...item46175a83d4
Good truck though but properly dullard off road apparently

I regularly offroad with 5 members of the l200 owners club and they are sound in the mud mate. One lad has a late one and it's pretty decent in all honesty, stock rear diff lock, 31"s and a measly 1.5" lift and it gets anywhere

For the same reason as old vw camper vans (iconic)They really are not worth the money but we love them so pay the extortionate prices.
Another example is my patrol, its worth about 2k but the last range rover I had was one year older but similar condition yet worth at least double that. Go figure
