I can see where your coming from and difficult to answer... yes the bull bar was fitted when I got the truck but it is a genuine Nissan one and I think the imports were made with them fitted.... spot lights were on but I put new ones on as the old ones were rusty, everything else "looks" factory fitted oh except the tow bar

But.... You say permanently attached...

Decals can be removed really easily without leaving a trace, so technically, they are not permanent.

Wider tyres, I have no idea what my car actually came with, there is no hand book, and if I do a search on the web, there are about 6 different sized wheels and tyres for my year. Also, they again can be removed and changed without leaving a trace, so are not permanently attached.

What about a roof rack... Some people put them on, and leave them on the car for ever, does that count as a mod?

But they are technicalities, really.

But... what about what Dawn has just said, the Bullbars were on the car when she got it, soo... are they original build, or should she tell the insurance company. When I got my first Vitara, they were selling one called a BigFoot, and it came as standard with wide wheels, flared arches, and bullbars front and rear, plus it said, a "factory fitted Thatcham approved alarm". One day, in the job I did, I had to go and install a system at a place on the Isle of Sheppey, and it turned out to be the place where they landed the Suzuki's. The place I was working, was full of staff fitting alarms, and all the extras , then adding the "BigFoot" logo to the car.

Now, if I had purchased one of those, it clearly stated "factory fitted alarm", and as far as I knew until that point, Bogfoot was a Suzuki model, but in reality, all of those extras were not fitted at the factory at all.

don't forget also that tinted windows ( other than original ) are considered a modification ....... I speak from personal experience ...... sheilas mistral had the stick on type stuff ..... they ( DL ) said that was considered a modification ...... so we removed them and her insurance went down

Decals or any signage on the vehicle is a mod, this is why...

If a door is damaged, then to put the car right, then they would need to replace the decals, which for whatever reason may no longer be available.

The insurance company would have to spend loads of money to sort this out, so they charge extra for it just in case later on.

So if is not declared, they can't put the vehicle back to its pre accident condition.

I have a friend who had this issue recently with a factory fit 'a' bar on a Freelander, it was the only thing damaged in a small shunt. The insurance approved repairer took it off, discovered they couldn't get a replacement, and put it back on again (only a small dent) sent the car back and demanded the £250 excess!

Dave let me down, kept promising to call me back, then claimed to have 2 prices but was busy (I'll cal, you back) then had no prices as my car was too new! then promised to call me back again! Went with AXA in the end

Did they cover the Mods as well? (presuming you have some)
