yes I sort of worked it out after a while, the wood we are burning at the mo is only getting to 150 but it lasts along time and am still sweating, and yes best way to clean the glass is a Stanley blade, temperature in here at the mo 23 C, Rick

Glass can still be had, www.fastglass.co.uk will cut to spec if they don't have your stove listed. A number of stoves can have the strips replaced with a single sheet these days too.

That's a bit of a blatant plug as the company linked belongs to my brother, but I doubt I'd manage to get you guys a discount as he's tight as a ducks ar$e!

Latest govt energy package thing. Basically they're offering very cheap loans to get your house energy efficient. the pay back is based on what you savings will be . End result is you pay it back at the level of expenditure you have now. so in 5 years or whatever your new goodies are all yours and you then get the cheap running benefits.
They're meant to fund anything that's practicle on your house as long as it really does save you money.
Look it up on google

I bought our Charnwood multi fuel back boiler a few years ago, it cost me £100 and is a god send this time of year, I have never bought wood, my mate has a window firm and I'm always darting into woods when out on my rounds.
Helps living opposite woods as well

Just had a bloke on my doorstep try to sell me cavity wall insulation under the green deal scheme wouldnt listen when i kept telling him all the houses around here where built as a model village in the early 1900s and are of solid wall construction he pointed to a missing mortar joint and said thats my cavity at that i told him to stop wasting my time and go away
Looks like the green deal is bringing the con men out

gas prices are sky high.
2 billion in profit in one year.
im 44 by the time im 65 at a 15% average price rise per year.I will freeze to death.
I am deffo scrapping my gas fire this year in favor of a multi fuel stove.
ive already burnt one to death in my greenhouse(more like a conservatory)
from free fuel ive picked up over the years.
I am not going to go cold I do enough of that workin outdoors.
