Ah sorry, bit slow on the uptake, it's your business so yes can see the need for quality gear, but security is a problem, no easy answers to that, depends on where you live etc, have you thought about CCTV it can be a real off put to thieves, even if you do not have a "real" camera or a concreted in ground anchor that is heavy chained to your mower, but maybe you live out in the sticks, so are isolated from grinder noise etc, give me some clues, Rick

we had a long thread on my security issue on here not long ago. A lot of my stuff is out in the sticks, though recently a couple of arrests were made (partly down to my sleuthing and sticking my oar in with the police) and things seem to have calmed down a bit now

I must say, that i think security should be built in by manufacturers. For example: locking points on equipment like mowers and generators (an eye bolt in a strong place would hep) and really going to town with the serial numbers, instead of just a sticker have it stamped into the surface in as big a font as possible and in full view, not out of site underneath!

so the manufacturers let you down on good strong anchor points, but on that cost of gear it would not be expensive install your own welded fixings, Rick

the problem is invalidating warranties, the can be proper fussy when it comes to 'modifications' I think the makers have a responsibility in this area that should be emphasised. Car makers have picked up on this with coded keys etc. it's about time everyone else woke up to it

actually Rick i am on Planks side on this, for the money you're paying they should include a decent security locking point for it, perhaps somewhere that if removed would make the machine useless

if they keep ignoring this they are almost complicit, as when things are stolen you have to replace them so manufacturers profit from theft - that's not right surely?

Agreed, most deffinatly, they need to realise the best customers are return customers not just the ones that have the money but the ones that saved up that money to buy the best and know it will be safe from theft, thats how you build a good customer base, trust of product

like on laptops, the kensington slot for a lock.

think tha might become standard, as saw the
feature on something other day, certainly not
a lappy, thb cant think what though. might
have been a tv/dvd combi - handy when left
in stores on demo mode.

ref gennies, typically have a handle can put
motor bike chain thru. but mowers yes their
handles are flimsy would need to be on motor
really.

The laptop lock point is a very good example

the generator? not so good most suitcase type compact generators have the handles held on by screw so a thief could just screw it off. Larger frame generators are obviously easier to secure. You are right about pedestrian mowers though, the handles are flimsy and can easily be removed, which ,makes for goos storage and transport but not security
