Welcome bud, a lot of us do it our own servicing but any mechanic should manage to service it, it's not any more difficult than any other vehicle
Who's serviced it before? What are the other issues? Had over to the introduction section and let us see the beast |

Hi and thanks for your reply, the vehicle has been serviced outside london. one of the issues is high idle speed , i also wanted to raise the vehicle slightly but not as much as 2" , plus advise on bilstein shockers, b4 or b6. i use the vehicle as a family car and dont do any off - roading. Will post a couple of pics.

Service Manual states 750-800 RPM, adjustment is done on the accelerator pedal, there should be an 8mm lock nut then the idle is adjusted by adjusting the thread with an allen key

Oops just re-read and he's got a 4.2
Should be same principle though The 4.2 is a cable operated pump too, adjustment may be slightly different

Tbh if your standard mechanic can't service a simple engine like that there's something wrong Re your idle issue, have you checked your hand throttle isn't stuck on? Twist the knob anti clockwise to release and clockwise when you want to lock it. Failing that you should be able to adjust the throttle cable similar to how Banshee described, cable adjuster will be driver's side of engine bay and easily accessible. Mine sits around 700 - 800 rpm at idle (can't remember exact). Try Pedders they should do hd standard height springs and if you give them a call they can sort you out with the right shocks |

Hi all, an update on my patrol. Took her to Nissan main dealer in west london - they adjusted the idle and advised me the fan belt was past its best, test drove her then gave a the car what they call a health check which she past. £59.00 including vat.
Bought Pedders standard rate rear springs along with Bilstein B4 [standard replacement shocks ] took to a garage with a very good rep who insisted to me changing them on a patrol was'nt a problem. But yes you guessed it they are struggling beyond belief, quoted me 3 hrs - has been that already and only one side in + damaged brake pipe now. This is why i asked the question. its definitely worth travelling to someone who is used to working on these beasts. Regards |

Sorry you've had trouble bud but a monkey could change shocks and springs, there's nothing complicated about it and any competent garage should be able to do it. I honestly don't understand why the garage can be having such a problem, although I'd say 3 hours for changing the lot was very optimistic
Patrols aren't overly complicated, epecially Y60s like ours, that's why they have a reputation for toughness and reliability. |

I am only in Bexhill, whilst not an expert on Trolls I have vast experience on Terrano's and as far as I am concerned a car is a car is a car, pre computer gubbins that is, Rick

Hi all, thanks again for your replies,
got the vehicle back today and ultimately she looks and feels good, and i agree with you these vehicles arn't hard to work on, i would say that the proprietor had been away for a long weekend and i believe left the work to people who were not as experienced as they could of been. had to have new rear copper brake pipe and ultimately a new brake master cylnder as that also decided to give up. Front springs and shocks next . Kind Regards |
