Strange how everyone approaches it differently, I used 1st Low up there with minimal throttle and just let it walk its way up on its own. Not sure why Robert and Steven chose that approach, if you're going to use 4L you may as well use 1H or 2H. |

why does the spinning wheel rotate twice as fast, isnt the output to the shafts defined
by the speed of the prop?[/QUOTE] it's all to do with the sun and planet gears in the crown wheel casing ssteve |

Diffs
Mate of mine has a 300TDi, and 2 200 TDi Discos - they will quite easily just spin when one side is bogged down - as other posts say, the centre diff lock will force a 50/50 torque split front & rear, but both axles have open diffs, allowing one wheel on each to spin freely. Put a Disco in a shitty ditch off the edge of a tarmac road & you'll have a hell of a job to get it out.
Most interesting pub fact of the day: I picked up a 2002 Disco TD5 for a mate yesterday. An ES model - air suspension, traction control, hill descent, electric leather seats, CD changer, climate, etc, etc, but NO centre diff lock - it was a £260 option on all Discos of that age!!! That means all three diffs are free. The traction control may help, but I would have thought that's a ridiculous backward step. |

As TRSR said earlier just used 1st low box and let car take itself, was surprised that Ian struggled in disco,as rocks were dry just deep rutted ground where they had washed away. One of the best boneshaking rides jj has been on sat in passenger seat.
