two car family again after 20 years

Hi,

so we still have T2, insured and registered in Mrs's name as has business cover.

In process of gaining her dad's car too, she is named driver on that but gather
will need it in her name for Swansea and insurer.

So I know we'll need to speak to our insurer and her dad's insurer.

Is it likely to be an issue if Mrs has two cars and 2 policies, plans to name me on
new car too.
Or I could take over T2 though wonder if business cover be trickier,

Or any experience with multi car covers.

Last time I toyed with insuring the T2, with nil NCB of my own wasnt much worse
than in Mrs's name with max ncb! think cos she'd be named driver on it?

Loads of companies do multi car policies but in fairness Direct Lines who I use call it multicar but it's still seperate policies getting discount because you are already with them.
Sounds daft but because of the project truck we've ended up with 3 cars and my sons car which are all insured through DL. All 3 of ours are in my name but the truck that my wife drives is insured in her name even tho I'm a named driver and vice versa with the other two.
Get quotes and be honest with the insurance companies, don't rule out the companies such as Direct Line as it is worth trying them too. I've tried Adrian Flux but they didn't come near DL. Also don't have loyalty to one company year after year, shop around every year.

We're on our first multi car policy this year with Hastings. My truck and bike are insured with them and I gave them a ring for a quote.
Multi car with them means both policies must be exactly the same. Level of cover, details regarding where stored over night etc. The wife had no noclaims and her car is in her name but she has been given full no claims as that's what I have, but it cannot be protected for the first 12 months. Wifey is also older than me which helped a little, so I'm told. Didn't tell her that bit though!

With Multicar, if you make one claim on one car, I assume both policies will in effect go up.
How do you revert back to having two separate policies later on, if conditions change? Can you transfer to two people to have full no claims.

Also not all policies allow twin axle trailers, that includes caravans.

Some policies which you want to include your children on, can be cheaper with one supplier than the other.
On our Yeti, we have put our off spring on the policy, mainly because when they want their own car again, they will get an automatic reduction. Their own no claims from previous car ownership has run out.

I was tempted a few years back to go for Multi-Car but at that time a good 10 years ago there was no saving in fact it was dearer than 3 separate policies even though there are only 2 drivers in our household with no cover for additional drivers apart from Insured & Spouse.

If you go Multi-Car and one of you has a claim it affects the whole premium. If like us you have 3 cars two in my name with Spouse cover and one in the Wife's name with Spouse cover if one of you has a prang it only affects one of your No Claims Bonus entitlements as you have not claimed against that Policy though the claim would be notifiable to the other Companies under the additional driver (Spouse) details. Plus it gives you the flexibility to drop one of the Spouse covers off if you had to reduce renewal costs.

Real problem with Multi-Car comes when want to drop back onto two separate policies for some reason as many other insurers will not recognise your previous built up NCB's and will not back convert so as to speak.

This year I have paid £204 & £201 with the Jeep last year at £458 a total of £863 in a year all fully Comp with one Policy only on protected NCB I do not think I can get close to that with Multi-Car ?

Cmax is her dad's car now he is unable to drive idea is we can still get her mum around

Figure it will be who ever needs what. As childminder she might need 6 or 7 seat option of terrano but of not suspect is going to quite lie the little one as quite buzzy and black with factory black rear windows so quite a posing machine.
