advice please

ok boys and girls , I seek your advice ...... im thinking of buying a back up heater for my static caravan .........something portable ....... are those halogen heaters any good ? ...... ive heard the tubes don't last long ....... what about ceramic heaters ? , I need to be carefull too as ive only got 16a electrics
, id rather not have a fan heater .

When we moved over here 13 years ago we had no hating for the first two years and we relied on six of those three bar halogen heaters to heat the rooms and they were great ,you can have one,two or three bars on and they rotate .You can also get them with a remote.
Like I said that was Thirteen years ago and I still have them all and only one has got one bar out

are the bars easy to source / replace , or is it a new heater ?

We have a small fan heater on the boat, on the odd occasion we get electric hook up, but I agree with you, they are not the best form of heating, but do get an area warmed quickly. Added to that there is the fan noise.

If I was choosing a heater, if I had more room on the boat, then I would go for an oil filled radiator. My daughter has one as a back up in her spare bedroom where we stop. It is 1/2/3 kW with thermostat, and even has a timeswitch... we don't use that.
It is very quiet, doesn't light the room up, are one of the more safe heaters, as some, if a coat drops near one, or it is knocked over, there could be some fire damage.
It is one electric heater that I would consider walking away from when left switched on.

If you just want back ground heating or frost prevention, then the tube heaters are used, but need to be fixed, and don't look that good.

the idea is for " instant heat " in case the gas bottles run out when the office is closed ( always works like that doesn't it

)

Now call me crazy, but this might be handy for me and the missus on the camping evenings in our tent.

but the website clearly states, NOT TO BE USED INDOORS.

MUST BE WELL VENTILATED...

Whats the frikken point?

I don't know how much the heaters are now in the uk but when I got ours they were only about a tenner, But they throw out a lot of heat,I think you would only need two bars at most in a caravan .
If one bar went, you still have two, if two go it would be as heap to buy a new heater.

Fan heaters are noisy, halogen give off light, so no good at night.

I use one of these http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/4152181.htm in our caravan when on site hook-up, three heat settings 2000w, 1250w and 750w. We find the 750w setting more than adequate for our two berth, with the benefit of no noise or bright lights!

the range in Norwich were advertising them for £7.99 ........ so me and swmbo took a little drive there , and bought the last 2

....... not really expecting much tbh ....... got them back to the caravan ( its a 35ft x 12 foot static ) ....... both work .... that's a good start

........ amazing the amount of heat they throw out too ....... quite impressed ....... doesn't really matter if they only last a season for the amount they cost

...... any more is a bonus .
