Towing insurance.
When I took out my motor insurance the other day, we talked about towing he said it covers me to tow upto 24ft well some caravans are longer than that.
Wonder if people ever check there insurance :?: or does the caravans own insurance cover it :?: |

My 26ft van is covered by the caravan insurance.
If your car insurance covers it, what does it cover???????

ah...
what the bloke on the phone said "I was insured to tow but only up to 24ft in length" So I suppose if I was towing a 26ft van and had to make a claim for any reason my insurance would be void. |

If your car can legally tow X weight and the length is below the max length or width you can legally tow on UK roads. Where is their arguement???? Just my thoughts 8O

A few years ago I changed my insurance to a cheaper one, and it was only when I read the small print it said that 4 wheel trailers were excluded. Under the 14 day rule I got a full refund, didn't know about the length though, so size does matter after all.
Mine is a boat trailer, (Seperate insurance for boat which includes the trailer and the engine. Infact, the boat could be in the water, the trailer on dry land and the engine in my garage... Sort that one out if there is a claim). When connected to the car, the car insurance gives third party cover ie if you damage another vehicle or property. Not sure which insurance you claim off for a breakaway while on the road, or if your caravan rolls down a hill in a field while camped.... You only find out how good insurance is (or not) when you have to make a claim. If you think that's a problem.... have you read the small print for your breakdown or relay cover, you may be surprised.....

If they've got a copy of the agreement with you I'd say they would say that you've signed a binding contract 8O
but you will probably find they've not kept the copy you signed 8O thats been happening a lot with people not paying back debt as the banks don't keep the copy you signed 8O so peeps get out of repaying the debt Will check my policy now as I've never even thought about this one 8O

guys the van length is likely hint of caravan code, which limits vehicles
with gvw upto 3500kg to tow max length ( body) of 7m/23ft and 2.3 m/7ft6in wide. so those big/wide hobbys etc need a commercial to tow em, frankly nice to hear an insurance company know what there talking about as see plenty of domestic trucks like t2/shoguns towing bigger vans and not all tuggers are traveller types. so will have a bit of shock when find have invalidated their cover.

ironic i know of a couple of members in our local centre of cc that have lovely but oversize hobbys, towed by shoguns and navaras but still illegal. funny really cos they dont use towing mirrors either which is a legal requirement even on a 4x4... guess their time will come :
