Christmas, a nice mathematical quiz.
How many presents, in total, were given in the twelve days of Christmas?
On the twelfth day of Christmas My true love gave to me Twelve drummers drumming Eleven pipers piping Ten lords-a-leaping Nine ladies dancing Eight maids-a-milking Seven swans-a-swimming Six geese-a-laying Five golden rings Four calling birds Three French hens Two turtle doves And a partridge in a pear tree Lets see who is the first to get it right. So which one is right, 78 or 364 ?

3-2 so far, but which is correct? 78 or 364 ?
On the twelth day you have: 12 + 11 + 10 + ........+ 1 But on the 11th day you have: 11 + 10 + 9 + ..... + 1 On the 10 th day you have: etc etc On the first day you have 1 Add them up and... Simples... Adds up to 364, so virtually 1 present for each day.

there are several versions of this song, but I particularly like the... Five Kan ga Roos Merry Christmas to the guys down south, who are enjoying their longest day of the year, as we are enjoying our shortest day. But we know that are days are getting longer, the nights are drawing out, as your days are now getting shorter...  We are really jealous that you are basking in summer sunshine. On the TWELFTH day of Christmas My true love sent to me Twelve parrots prattling, Eleven numbats nagging, Ten lizards leaping, Nine wombats working, Eight dingoes digging, Seven possums playing, Six brolgas dancing, Five kangaroos, Four koalas cuddling, Three kookaburras laughing, Two pink galahs, And an emu up a gum tree!
