Picture printing
Hi all, I need help, not car related, as heading it is to do with printing pics on to a hot film printer that is quite old, but works well and I have more than a hundred sheets and corresponding ink film, but it can only take a "smartmedia" card, now the problem is I can take a pic on the wife's old Fuji camera that uses the smartmedia card and it prints fine, but if I copy an identical image from my PC onto the same card the pic comes up on the monitor but upon pressing print it says unreadable image, any ideas, Rick

yep everything identical, first thing I checked, silly thing is it has been no problem in the distant past but have not used this printer for a good while and only want to use up the paper/film left as not available any more at sensible cost, but the prints are just the same as a developed photograph, and I have a series of pics that I want in this quality, Rick

I would hazard a guess that the although the file type is JPG, it is using a newer encoding. They are forever updating the codecs, and making the files smaller and smaller, but it does away with backward compatibility...
Not sure if it will work, but you could try saving the file as BMP, or TIF, it is an older larger file size, but less messed with. Only thing is, your printer may not recognise them. |

In the past, I have pasted the picture in a word document, and printed that.
Might not work with your printer, but maybe worth a try. Rustic

What is the make and model of printer? From that we can find out the compatible file format and show you how to convert the files from the PC.

It is a Panasonic NV-MPD7 the files are JPG on wife's camera and same on the Nikon that I then save to lappy and transfer them to the smartmedia but as Lazy ferret says the JPG files may be updated and that could be the reason the Panasonic is not able to print, funny that it displays the pics on the monitor so it recognises them as far as that goes, Rick

Forgot to say, try opening the files in Picture Viewer, and rotating them 90degrees, and moving on to the next picture... it will re-save the picture in the new orientation. then go back through, and put them back again, and again move on to the next picture... you may find that when it saves the file, it puts it into a format the printer can understand. |

Converting to other file types does not seem to work, it does not even show them on the screen, looks like I will have to print to plain paper and laminate them, Rick
