the dizziness in my head is just clearing after a slight shock

sold the caravan a couple of months ago, so due to running cost etc we are pondering on parting with our terrano .2002 se, 73000 on the clock,fsh,good condition.

so passed a local garage tonight an popped in just to see what sort of part ex they were offering against a £8500 car(i paid £7995 for it last march)

you could have knocked me down with a feather(an im a big bloke)i said `your having a laff ay ya` he said `no it should be 2k but ill give ya 2.5k,its the fuel costs and tax etc, the 4x4 markets bin hit hard`at this point i felt like hittin him hard :evil:

i know ive gotta shop around and theres private sale etc but this just blew me away tonite i never expected to lose that much.

oh well chin up eh!

Makes me glad I got a pre 2001 bone shaker. Sorry to hear you got such a bad valuation though, you could try other garages such as where you bought it from.

I have a 2003 which I replaced last year with a new Navara, I decided not to sell it as the money being offered then was silly low, I figured it owed me nothing and was a fantastic car so i sold the wifes crappy C-Max and she's driving it now.

Yesterday I decided to see what they're fetching on Autotrader. Going rate for mine is about £4k, and that's a dealer selling it! Crazy cheap. Thankfully I'm still not looking to sell it, but the wife is thinking of a smaller car as the T2 is pricey to run, so if she does get a small car I'll just put the T2 into storage, sure it'll get used at some point in the future.

Ironically here in Northern Ireland we've had lots of flooding and on Sat night mine was the only car able to get into or out of the area I live in, and back in Jan when we had heavy snow again the T2 kept going everywhere it had to and the small cars were stranded.

Just PX'd the Terrano - Terrano is 2001 model, £1000, but body wise not in the best condition due to greenlaning, mechanically sound though. Just no market for the older 4x4's with poor emissions, combined with fuel prices etc. But I've had my use of the terrano, and 4x4 ownership continues, importantly with another Nissan, this time an Xtrail.

Wish I'd have known you were getting shut Jonathan, I'm on the look out for a newer one, and would have given you more than that - but hey.

If anyone else is looking to trade anything in prefere the last shape (Mk3) pref late 200 early 2001 but would go newer then let me know, I'll at least match the trade in you're offered (which should leave you able to knock the asking price down) or probably better it, must be SWB manual though.

Deal is done, so don't know what they'd say if i got a buyer for it now! Get new car a week on saturday, so even if they were agreeable it'd be quite tight in terms of funds etc! Besides you'd need to know that my T2 fell into the later high emissions tax band, so will be in line for £400+ VED in the future - the main reason we're moving on, that & the fact that 2 4wds in the family would be a little excessive! Club membership continues with the Xtrail that we got in January though.

Will be looking at selling all the goodies that I've acquired for it over the years:

Steel wheel & mud terrains (set of 4 Kumho's)

Hi all,

I`ve just tried to sell my Navara to the dealer I bought it from a year ago and he said I`d be lucky to get £13k. A bit of a drop from the £20k plus VAT I shelled out.
Nissan reckon they can`t sell them at the moment due to fuel prices so I might as well run it into the ground if I can`t get a half decent price.
Daft thing is I used to own a Renault Laguna which only did 2 MPG more than the Navara round town and that was easy to sell.
Fuel prices are falling steadily so I wonder if these cars will regain wider appeal in the future? Anyone like to guess?

Honestly, I'd say no. The days of the 4x4 as a "family car" are dead. Have to say though I think it's not that bad a thing. Many of us drive these cars/trucks for good reason, and know how to drive them. Many many MANY don't, they got one as a status symbol and use them to force their presence on others on the road. And really they give all of us a poor name.

Cost of ownership is now perceived as way higher than it really is, so even the show offs will be put off, meaning the rest of us can continue to drive them without the constant "chelsea tractor" comments.
