Hi and Welcome, Rick (Solarman) is the resident expert on Petrol models.
Is it definitely the engine, or one of the other many rattles that are always worse when the engine it running cold, like the exhaust system, rear seatbelt hangers, side steps, passenger side dash board, sunroof..... Cold Rattles on Engines tend to be tappets, especially if they are hydraulic, or in the case of the petrol engine, the timing chain tensioner, but as I say Rick is the expert on that engine. |

Two items can make rattle on start up, timing chain first, and the other is the big ends, do not worry neither are too onerous, what mileage has it done and what year, Rick

Hi Rick, she's got 70k on the clock I've had her for 4 years now, on a R reg I know it's very low mileage and I was sceptical when I bought it

Timing chain would be the first item I would attend to, buy the kit from the states, about £60 plus p&p chain alone from Nissan £80 to £100, if you are not able to do it, I can do it for £100, Rick

If you do not mind me asking, what did it cost? and was it a main stealer or other? PM me if you like, Rick
