well done, in answer to Briggie's reply I remember when petrol was 2 shillings and 6 pence a gallon and a transport cafe meal was the same or maybe 2 and 9, for those that don't that will be 12.5 p current, oh and a packet of 20 fags was the same, Rick showing my age now yea,

Boy Oh boy, I remember when I was very young, my father filled the tank up, 4 gallons, he gave a £1 note and got some change....

A Heartbeat moment. My first car it was 67p per gallon.

i remember when i used to race motorbikes .. i had a go at speedway racing ( bad idea lol ) .....at the time most of the guys ran on methanol ..... horrendously expensive from what i remember ( dangerous too ) ..... wonder how much it is now ? ...... not that im young and foolish anymore lol

so by my reconing average wage in 1963 £20 pw = 160 gallons of fuel, today whats the average wage £600 pw = about 106 gallons, big difference, price of a transport cafe meal 1963 160 meals today 120, fags dont know what they cost today, Rick
