I cant resist putting my opinion in here, in the example thread you mentioned it was in fact the inappropriate comments of a 'Mod' that began the whole problem, he did i beleive realise the error of his ways and that is all that is needed - problem arrises, some one point sit out, apology from person who made he mistake, and we all move on.
If the problem persists then yes by all means delete threads etc. I see no wrong in the odd heated debate, it has an element of the 'dialectic' in it, in that someome puts forward an idea and then we all agree or disagree and reach a group conclusion. I think the peoblems occur when people jump in without having read the whole thread with opinions that simply muddy the water further. when things break down to this level, with silly statments flying, then perhaps yes delete the lot. if there are particular areas that seem to cause problems, then why not find a moderator or 'advisor to the oderators on that topic' who's opinion can be sought to clear up the problem? In this case it was the issue of race / racism, and this is often a problem area, so why not get some one to 'advise' if not moderate in this field? some one who's area of expertise lie in that area? all just food for thought! |
